Balancing the SIG Four Star 60 ARF
I was at the hobby shop yesterday and they had a 4*60 ARF on the shelf. These have been unavailable, most places, for a while so I was surprised they still had one. I couldn't resist, so it's now spread out in my hobby room.
I have seen suggestions to replace the nylon pushrods with #4 solid wire rods; I can do that easily enough.
I have read a few comments about the model being tail heavy. I'll most likely be using a Magnum 91 four stroke, and plan to use a 4.8v 1650mah AA nimh battery pack. I know the solid pushrods will add tail weight, and a Sullivan tail wheel bracket might add a little more.
I do not plan to build larger control surfaces; I plan to assemble the ARF pretty much the way SIG intended.
Any guess how much nose weight this thing is likely to need?

RE: Balancing the SIG Four Star 60 ARF
I had a 4*60 kit with a magnum 75 on the nose. I didn't need any weight to balance the plane. Flew that thing just about weekly for 3 years; until the wing folded on me.
Enjoy

Carrell, I'm running a .91 Saito on my 4Ûž60. I had to fab some little steel flatbar extension rails to balance in the middle of the range. This was with everything moved as far forward as possible. I think with a .91 Maggie, you might be fine with it on the very end of the rails on the provided mount.

My guess is you won't have to add any tail weight at all. Mine balances perfectly with a TT.91RFS and with the battery underneath the fuel tank. You're going to love the plane.

RE: Balancing the SIG Four Star 60 ARF
Thanks guys. I haven't started assembly yet. I inventoried everything and looked over the assemblies. It appears that they did a good job on this one. I will say it is a LOT of yellow. It will probably glow in the air. I'm thinking about getting 4 big stars (black) cut for the bottom of each wing to make it easier to tell top from bottom.
