I had a US engines 35 in my GP giles but it just wasn't enough to have unlimited vertical. It would do the Sportsman real well but not a real top performer. With the 4-pounds of engine up front, I only had to add about 4 ounces to the tail along with the standard setup of servos at the rear. A lighter and stronger gasser like a BME, ZDZ, 3W, FPE or Taurus might be a good choice in that same size. If I were to do it again, I would go for at least a 40-44cc gasser at no more than 4.5 pounds. This will give you unlimited vertical and the ability to go straight up from a Torque-roll. The GP Giles is very beefy and somewhat heavy without a motor. A good choice for glow would be a Moki 1.8 or 2.2. This motor is about the same 4 pounds as the gas but is loaded with power. I sold my Giles after just a few flights and will probably get another with a 40-sized "premium" gas motor. Chief aircraft is showing this plane at less than $200. Talk about a deal. The GP .46 Extra 300S ARF is virtually the same price?? Good luck!
