Help! H 9 P-40 muffler/cowling fitting
I am in the last stages of assembly of this project. Been taking my time and, thanks to the help recieved from all the posts!
I am using a Saito 120 (think it will be enough power?... With a stock muffler with a 90 deg. turn comming out of the head.
Not very experienced on the cowling cutting/fitting thing. Darn sure don't want to make a mess of the beautiful cowling provided.
As you can see, I have about 2 1/4 in. to go before the cowling will be in position.
How would you guys go about cutting the muffler hole on the cowl. Any 'Standard' method out there? I hate to guess and cut. The three attached pics basiclly show what is going on...
Any help or links to threads would be greatly appreciated!

If you want to keep it real pretty....check out custom mufflers by Keleo Creations..Kelvin makes custom mufflers for all the Hangar 9 warbirds and are not overly expensive....He also makes Pitts style for most Saito 4 strokes...Cliff Whoops that could be Keleco Creations.......

I have a Saito 100 in mine and it is faster than my WM .60 mustang with the same motor so, yes your 120 is going to really move it along. I picked up a 90 degree adapter and flex pipe that is made for the saito's at Horizon Hobby. I dont recall the exact part #'s but if you give them an email they will tell you exactly what to order. It works great on both of mine. It only requires an exit hole to be cut at the back bottom of the cowl. You just barely see the tip of the pipe sticking out. Just my .02.

did your cowl come in a clear plastic sleeve shaped like the cowl...if so put that on the plane just like you were mounting the cowl mark it where it needs cut and use that as a template...it worked grate on my p-40

I have the Saito 100 and use a flex pipe and 90 degree adapter. All from Horizon. Call Product support and they will give you the parts number. Added a short rubber extension so it goes by wing slot.
Looks great and no cutting cowl
