I want to get another Great Planes Shoestring, but Great Planes dont make it anymore. Towerhobbies dont have anymore, does anyone know of any place here online where I might be able to find one?
Thanks,
Chris

It is my favorite plane ever. I think it flys better than my extra's and caps do.

Hi Chris, I know this doesn't relate to your question, however, since you've got experience with it I was wondering what mod's if any would/do you recommend? I've had one sitting in my garage for a year or so since I was a beginner when I got it. I've just been waiting to add flying time prior to getting it in the air, I also have a YS-110 to use as the powerplant. Any gussetting or epoxy reommended? Thank you in advance Chris,

Be well, Steve S.

The only mod I did to mine was I reinforced where the landing gear bolts up to the fuse at, one good hard landing and you are going to rip out the stringers.

Thanks Chris for the tip and good luck with your search. If you haven't already tried placing an ad in the Buy & Sell section of the various online websites, that just might yield a find or two.

I did the some mods while I was building it. I replaced the bottom stringers with spruce, glassed the landing gear plate, and center section of the wing. I power mine with a Tower .75 and it flies awesome. I have burned 7-1/2 gallons through it so far this summer. I do not know how strong it would be in stock form, but it appeared kinda weak.

Thanks for the lead, I want another Shoestring as well. I'm going to try information & calling them tomorrow.

They show several discontinued models so I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.

I have an OS 91 2 stroke on mine... with a pitts muffler... It is a great combo... It's racing plane and the os91 doesn't have that tipical high pitch wine too it... Way cheaper then the saito 100... and lots faster...

I fly mine on a 61FX - I had a Saito100 in it, but it got moved to my U Can do.

The FX even flies this plane with authority. It is my absolute favorite airframe I have ever owned - it's stable, and agile. Smoothest sport flier ever.

If they would release a 1.20 size or a 45-50% version, I'd be first in line.

What size prop do you recomend with the os 91, give me a couple to choose from, I want a prop that will allow it to slow down landing.

Cyclic and motorman, I like how you guys ran your antenna up to the vertical stab like that. What did you guys use to keep it up there?

Most just stick a T Pin in the rudder. I would use a rubber band on the antenna using a CUT servo horn I can post a pic showing how to run the antenna.

I just put in 7 flights yesterday at a big bird flyin in Fondulac WI. It was the fastest plane there other than the 10 or so jets. We had about a 20 (flag sticking straight out) mph wind blowing directly down the runnway. I did several really high speed fly by's for the crowd of 750 people. You could could here people talking about how fast that little yellow plane is.

Well its been almost a week, and it was mailed USPS priority mail from two states over. The only other time I had a plane shipped via USPS from towerhobbies the plane never showed up, I hope this one has a different outcome. DO bigger boxes take longer to get to there destination?

hmm - never had a problem with Tower getting planes to me - and the U Can do 60 has a 1 piece 65" wing, so it's not a small box. My bigger problems have always been
