Painting after flying?
I flew my CMPro 1.20 Corsair a week ago sunday and the more I think about the aircraft's colors the more I want to repaint it.
I am thinking of making it all navy blue.
I don't have any decals or markings on it that I can't remove easily.
So I have two questions.
Can I Paint it after flying it?
It's glow so has some oil residue on it.
And how much of a pain in the butt will it be to not get paint into the hinges, etc?
Thanks

You will need to remove all of the covering, and remove the control surfaces, to do a good job. You could clean the covering with denatured alcohol and get the paint to stick for a while, but when it starts flaking off it will be a big mess.

I forgot to mention that the fuse and center section is painted fiberglass. The wing tips and rudder are the only places that are covered.
Even the outer wing panels are glassed.
Will a good cleaning and sanding work?
I'm going to wait til after the flying season to do anything.

You probably don't want to hear my take on it, but unless you have enough power to 3D this bird you need to sand scrape or how ever and get it back to the primer. Otherwise it will be too heavy to fly..

RE: Painting after flying?
There is a good thread on this subject, I think in the warbird section, where a fellow scaled out a hangar 9 .150 P-47.. He used 000 steel wool to scuff the covering and did panel lines etc. Did some painting over the covering and ended up with a really good "scale" rendition..... using a good automotive prepsolv to remove oil and clean surface would be of help. Ask a GOOD auto body shop how they pep cars for touch up/ repaint. check around... Good luck, Cliff
