Hangar 9 Cub with Saito 60 twin issues
I just bought a Hangar 9 Cub and put on a Saito FA60 twin on it. I have a few questions. I Bought this engine used and it runs really well and is perfect for this airplane. But I'm not sure if the exhaust is stock. It's pretty loud as there is no muffler. It sounds great on the ground thumping away, but in the air it's pretty noisy and just doesn't have the pleasing sound that I wanted. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also the stock cowl with the molded dummy engine is useless for this application so I am looking for another smooth cowl. Any ideas about that? Does anyone have this engine on another plane that I could see photos of the cowl cutouts? Thanks in advance for any help!

Your exaust is just like mine is on my 60 twin, so it must be stock. If you can't find a smooth cowl, just cut out around the cylinder and make a shroud to go over the engine like I'm doing on my 33%. I'll post a picture so you can see how to make the cut. The real Cub's have shrouds over their engine cylinder's. On the full scale Cub you can see the shroud. I'm scaling mine after this cub. Bob

I am putting together a GP 81" J3 ARF. Using a Saito 90 Twin. The cowl that came with the plane was a little flimsy. I ordered a couple from Fiber-Glas Specialties. I think that is the company. I used the original kit cowl for a pattern. Look at pictures below for final cuts, and setup in progress. It is best to cut the cowl in half first, top and bottom.
Measure what is best for your application. With the 90T mounted, I set the top and bottom half's to the engine, and penciled the engine outline the best I could, without going overboard.
Fore and aft are important also, so mounting on the fuselage to have the thrust washer at clearance on front. I am using button machine thread scews to attach top and bottom pieces. You can epoxy blind nuts or other open threaded pieces with tabs for joining. I can send you more detailed pix if you want of the finished product.
Anyone reading this, any info on the DP SuperCub delivery time? I have had one of BO for 6 months, and heard delivery may be October this year, hoping they fill retail orders before the distributors.

Mdish - That was some time ago. I have brought up some of the original build pictures here. Also, some finished. The cowl halves are siamesed. After making a pattern for the engine halves, etc., then cutting the cowl, I am not sure if I used another cowl from the same mfg for this, or if I bought Sig cowls from their 1/5th scale J-3.
You can see the pictures, cowl cut in half, horizontal, then I used 4:40 type (not nuts, and not blind nuts), It is like a flat bowed piece that can be epoxied behind the cowl, on a tab, sticking up. The tabs are either on the bottom half, or the top half, then these pieces are epoxied on the drill hole points. You can then bring the top of the cowl down, and the lip of it will fit over these areas, holes match up, then you can use hex head 4:40 1/4" screws to hold it on. At the rear of the cowl, it is held on with the same 4:40's, and I used the 4:40 female inserts that just screwed into the fuselage at the firewall. Drill, screw in, the inside of it is threaded. I am going to look for some pictures of that set up. I use that everywhere I have a cowl. Please ask if any questions, and I can try to dig up more photos and send. I found the screw inserts and 4:40 cap screws. I also use nylon washers at the screw head. You can get these at Ace Hardware, or any hardware that has the screw and nuts sections.

Wow!!
Unbelievable response thank you for helping me out. I plan to study your response and will most likely have some questions once I digest all this.

I used the exhaust for the rear cylinder of a Saito 100Ti inline twin on my 60. The same for both cylinders. I bought the engine used and it didn't have exhaust on it.
I have a 90TS and it came with flexible exhausts but I've never started it.
There's a guy on here that used Saito 56 exhausts on his 90T. He also used the 10mm Turbo Header exhausts with 80 degree adapters.
The exhaust on your 60T looks like that from www.keleo-creations.com/ but the site is down right now.
