Hangar 9 p-47 vs p-51
Hi there
I would like to ear from anyone who has flown either ( or preferably both )
of these plane to tell me about them .
Is one easier than the other ( ie: low speed , stall caracteristics ) ? .
I read in a review that the position of the tank on the p-47 ( a bit high compared to the carburator) might
render proper idle a bit difficult to optain without a glow driver ... did you have a similar experience ?
Did p-51 guys have similar experiences ?
Thanks

I have the H9 P-47 and love it. I haven't flown the H9 P-51, but from my discussions and observation I believe the P-47 is a bit easier to fly. The large wing area makes it an easy warbird to land. My Jug doesn't have the nose over tendency of most H9 Mustangs (although I upgraded to Robart retracts and Robostruts).
I can't give you a good answer on the tank position impact on idle as I have an onboard glow driver which helps the OS-91 FS maintain a reliable, slow idle.

In response to the original question, we have two of these birds at our field and neither have troubles with the tank location. I have read this about the H9 AT6 also and I have not had a problem with that either.

Andy & Doug,
It's good to hear from you guys again. I've been watching the H9 P47 thread continue to grow, but haven't posted much lately. My Jug has taken a few lickin's and keeps on flying (some repairs required). It's my most reliable and enjoyable plane.
Cheers,
John

I have had both. They are very easy to fly and I wouldn't say one is eaiser than the other. The stock location for the fuel tank has worked well for me on both planes. I am using the Saito 100 on both planes. Have not had any issues with nose over problems on either plane. Buy the one you like the best. You will not regret either one. Good luck.

I have the P-51 with a ST .90 in it, and it is a rocket, but very hard to land and not tip over.
If you fly on grass it should be cut like a golf green to not tip over.
And I have a .60 size Black horse P-47 and I think it flies a lot better and cleaner then the Mustang, I have an old HP .61 in this one.
With the flaps down it lands like a trainer on all 3 wheels.
Just my 2 cents.

RE: Hangar 9 p-47 vs p-51
Hi
I have the Hangar 9 P-51 and i balanced it farther back than spec its at the very rear of the wheel wells or 5-1/2 back the recomended is 4-3/4 I havent noticed any bad habits and it amazes everyone as to how slow it fly's its stall is a jentle drop to the left but wont snap over a bit of throttle managment and she floats in for 3 pointers. we have a very nice field and its well kept so touch and goes all day with no troubles except for my landing gear i think they updated them mine get out of adjustment sitting on the runway on a hot day and ive lost a set of retract servo gears $3 wont kill me a set of robarts is next. I love this plane.
