Default Goldberg Edge 540 ARF .60-.90, OR Seagull Edge 540

I have been reading the posts on these. This is has turned out to be tough decision. Has anybody owned both models? Is the quality of the Goldberg much better for $175.00 more?

I plan to use the Saito 1.25 motor

Thanks

I have not owned both models, but generally, the build quality of Seagull ARFs is better than Goldberg ARFs. The Goldberg will probably be lighter and fly better. Whether it is worth $175 more depends on your priorities.

Thanks Jim.

I am hoping someone will chime in who has owned both. I just do not see the $175.00 difference really after reading both manuals. The goldberg has the removable stab and and nicer hinges.

Jim,

Could you tell me about your Seagull?

Will the Saito 1.25 be enough or could I use the OS 1.20 AX 2 stroke. I am looking to fly smooth and slow and percise.

I have owned the Seagull and have seen the Goldberg.

The Seagull (new 2nd generation - red/white/orange) is excellent and has corrected all of the shortcomings of the original red/white/blue one.

Buy the Seagull You will be VERY pleased.

Yes, the 125 will be perfect engine selection for this plane.

Yes, that is the one you want.

There are many changes between the original and the new V2 one. Here are just a few:
- much improved hardware package
- flying wires added to the tail
- plug in wings (original was one piece)
- larger wingspan and cord = reduced wing loading
- considerably lighter but stronger structure = reduced in loading
- a much more visually appealing coloring scheme

The original version was "OK". The new V2 540-60 is simply awesome in build quality and flying. Way better than the goldberg. Save the $175 and spend a small portion of that on carbon fibre landing gear for the Seagull. The aluminum bent plate that comes with the kit are OK but a bit flimsy - they are a bit too springy for my liking. A good set of CF gear is the only aftermarket part needed.

Hi all...

Another thing i'm curious about is I bought a evolution 1.20 nx for the seagull edge 540 60 v2, is it going to fly well and reach my expectations with that motor?

Thank you in advance

Another plane to consider is the Aeroworks QB Yak 54. I haven't flown it but one of the guys at my field has one and it has a flying weight of about 6 lb with a saito 82. Flies great from what I can see.

I know you didn't ask about this but it seems to be a contender.

Hi all...

is it going to reach my expectations with that motor?
Only if you expect vertical launches like the Space Shuttle.

If you want slow (ish) 3D type performance, with hovering at mid throttle, then I'd say a 1.20 fourstroke will be perfect. A club-mate has a saito 125A in his and it pulls away vertically at 2/3rd throttle.1.20 2 strokes come into their own at somewhat higher rpm/airspeeds. Having said that, the OS 1.20 AX is tuned for peak power at 9,000 rpm which is 4-stroke territory.
The Seagull model needs weight up the front usually and I found the slab tailplane made the plane a little abrupt in its elevator response, finding "neutral" was less easy than a plane with an airfoil section tail.
regards,
Carole Sherrington
