Hi Gang,
I decided to go with the PITTS SPECIAL.
I always had a love tor the aerobatic plane and had flown one back in 1987.
WHHHOOOOOHHHHOOOOO
WHAT A WILD MACHINE.
On my third landing I slipped (Cross Control)in and came in right over the trees and almost gave some spectators a hair cut
What I need to know is for $400.00 + radio gear is the PITTS a nice flying aerobatic model?
Really not looking for speed but at the same time don't want to spend 6 months learning how to fly it.
If anyone has built the TH model I have a few questions
1.How was the covering?
2.How much more longer did it take to finish up the 20%?
3.Final question.Since it is a model and designed for aerobatics how well does it fly in a straigt and level course?
Do you need the fingers on the controls at all times to keep trimming for straight?
Thanks in advance for any input

Which pitts are you refering to? Tower Hobbies doesn't have a pitts ARF. But if you are talking about the Kyosho, I can tell ya about that. The covering is top notch. Just a little heat gun here and there. There is a clear layer over the covering, which after a few flights started to peel back. If that happens, just pull it off. Problem solved!! Great flier, if you keep the weight down. I had a 46fx and it was perfect. Then I got a wild hare and decided to put my saito 91 in it!! After you get it trimmed, it will fly like it is on a rail. Nice and straight, Aerobatics are really scale like. It has allot of roll coupling, Kinda like a cub. Aileron turns combined with the rudder help keep the coupling down. The firewall already has 2 degrees of right thrust built in. Mine did however need about 1 degree of up thrust to keep the up/downline straight without adding ele. Loops, rolls, 4 points, inverted only req minimal down, and it will tumble for days. All in all it is a great plane. Assembly is that of any arf. Just watch when screwing in the wing struts and cabane. Both are just screwed into basswood. i would suggest drilling through the fuse and put in blind nuts for the cabane as mine had to be tightened after almost ever flight. and if you are feeling really froggy you can also put them in for the wing struts too. I just put a good layer of thin CA in the holes and had no probs form the struts. I would also suggest TNT landing gear as the gear with the Kyosho ARF's are pretty week. I hope this is the plane you are reffering to. and remember, this is just my $.02!!
Oh and if you want to see pics, it is in the crash forum!!

What do you think?
To much plane for the average flier.
I want something fast and do all the tumbles and loops etc but not have POP pills to stay calm while it's up and flying
I really have my heart set on it.
The little women here Diane is is paying for it days B B F C F
Buy,Build,Fly it, Crash it ,and Forget it
Looks like it almost time to seek out a super good instructor

Not too much plane for an average pilot, but if you are considering it for your second model I would recommend waiting and getting something else like a Four Star or U Can Do 3D to hone your skills with planes that are a little hotter. Once you master that type of plane then you are ready for something like an Extra or Pitts, etc.

From what I have read about the 1/3 scale pitts it can be a handfull at times. But I think it is that way with any pitts. I myself prefer the ultimate bipes. They just seem to fly allot better than the pitts. Maybe check out the Dave Patrick Ultimate. It is a little cheaper but it flies like a bat outta hell!! Throw a Saito 180 or if you want gas, a Fox 2.4 on there and watch out!!!!

Myself Owning the Gp pitts ( g62 powered ) Smoked
The plane has no real bad tendenceys Point shoot and fly
Slow flight is very calm( no wing dropping stuff you would think
My plane came out alittle heavy But fly like its on rails
I bought another for a back up ( because of the wings one the second run stuff ) Tumbles nice , Good recovery and Is a very stable platform

It was your post that I was looking for.
After reading the above is what convinced me to go with the Great Planes PITTS.
If you don't mind me asking,
What do you think you have invested in the PITTS with radio gear and the bigger engine?
Also what engine are you running on the pitts?

I,'m looking through the book now but don't see that name.
I see where Great planes has the gas engine for $249.00.
Looks like it's going to cost more then I thought.
I'll aso need the much stronger servos.
I'll do a search on that engine name.
Thanks for writing

Whirley,
Be sure you check the back posts on here about the problems with the cabane mounts. Although I think GP fixed that problem on their newer models.
This is a big plane and along with that as I am sure you realize is a big price tag. I have couple of bigger planes and it just really breaks me up to equip these things! If you are buying all this stuff new you will have over $800 in the plane and engine if you go with a good gasser. Then consider good servos, batteries, prop, all the wiring components..... the list goes on and on....... Not at all trying to talk you out of this plane. I have seen one of these things fly and it just might be the best looking ARF I have ever seen. A really beautiful airplane. Good luck!

I have the g62 (not gonna mention price)
I am using 4 futaba 9202 servos in the wings
2 9303 in the elevators
1 jr 4711 for the rudder
a 3000 mil 6 volt pack for the radio
a 1800 for the smoke 4.8 volt
a tme smoke set
Mpi 6 volt reg swiches
I probably have a little over 500 in radio gear
plus engine
( I dont like having problem with equiptment)
I use what I work
you can fly the plane for alot less
I have seen gerrys plane fly with the fugi 52
It flys standard servos in the wing it rolls
what you need to ask is what you want to do with it ?
and build it around your needs
I wanted vertcal performance
I wanted roll rate
and you have to have smoke in it ( a pitts doesnt look right without it)

.LovemyEdge ,
I have read some older post and there were some things that concerned me.
I also looked at the smaller PITTS made by Goldburg,Midwest and Kyosho.
A heck of a lot cheaper and I can use the radio gear and bigger engine I already have.
Al I need is more beefed up servos.
The one made by Kyosho seems to have a lot going for it at a very good price so i'm re-thinking now.
Thanks for the input.
Have a great time building & Flying

I just finished covering a Lanier Ultimate Pitts and it is a cool plane. It is smaller and cheaper to outfit than the GP Pitts, although not a true scale pitts. Kind of a mix between the Ultimate bipe and the pitts. Needs something like a Satio 150, OS 160fx or so to fly it well. Needs 5 standard and one high torque servos. It is a kit and not an ARF which will require much more time to build. I bought mine framed up ready to cover and took it from there. They are nice flying planes. Might be a possible plane to consider if you don't mind a kit. I can take some pictures of mine and post them here if you are not familiar with the plane.

Flyfalcons, you may be right. I think he is flying an ultimate pitts of some sort. I have heard his flight routines are really something to behold! There is another airshow pilot flying an ultimate pitts too, can't think of his name right now but I have heard he is awesome as well. His plane is yellow and black if I remember correctly.
