I'm thinking of using my new Brillelli SPE 40cc conversion in my Katana 140. Should be plenty of power.

i'm not sure that 160 can take this katana to the top, i know that the moki 180 have more power and this plane hovered with him...
i'm looking for engine that takes this plane to best results and i don't think that the 160 is the answer for 3D in this case.
i will be very! happy if a GAS engine will take this plane to hover nice.

Check out the light weight Brillelli and BCMA Engines SPE 40cc conversion engines. They are really light for the displacement and should produce enough power for 3D flying.

I've never heard of a Katana that wasn't designed for 3D flying. I will be happy if it flies IMAC well.

No, I haven't tried it yet. I hope to build it this Winter and fly it next Spring. Keep your fingers crossed. <G>

there is a very large thread on this board about this plane. The overwhelming majority of owners (including me) will tell you that this is not a 3-d plane. If your definition of 3d is only to hover then you should be able to overpower this plane with an array of large engines that will accomplish this.

i didn't said that hovering makes your plane a 3d plane but i'm not sure that 160 OS can makes this plane hover.
i'm looking for a plane that hover with no problem and makes my katana acting like the giants
i need it with large prop and i want to fly this katana slow as much as she can, and smoking all over!!
take a look of this engine he got somthing else for every body!!
i think i found the best engine for me!!!

The plane will never fly slow and smoke, especially with a 40 cc.many claim that the OS will outpower the Moki 180.I had this Katana, dont put a gasser in it.Good luck

I don't remember hearing of the Katana in any other context. This does not make it so, however.

I was under the impression that it was an early attempt at making a larger 3D model. I don't follow these things closely, so I do not claim to know diddly about the subject. <G>

there's always the YS DZ160 that should take care of any power concerns.

don't get me wrong, I like this plane alot. I think for the money it is an excellent value. I would not hesitate to buy another CMP aerobat. I am especially fond of the 1.40 size Giles. unfortunately the Katana is not an all out 3d machine. My Funtana flies rings around this plane, but this does not make this a bad plane. On the otherhand if I flew my funtana like I sometimes do this plane I would rip the Funtana's wings off. You will enjoy it with whatever engine you choose for it. I maybe have a different view of what a 3d plane is and it isn't a 14 to 15 pound 71 inch wingspan Katana.

Too bad,it will fly like a heavy 40 size plane.Fast crisp aerobatics but a Pig with reduced throttle inputs and stall speeds that can make for an interesting day at the field.

Have you ever flown a pattern ship or an IMAC ship? How would it compare to them? TIA
