I am happy I changed my mind about the Os 1.20 AX 2-stroke (judging by what you are telling me..)

I have been slowly working on it..... I have been finishing out my basement... Very little time...

How's that Brielli working????
Could you post some picts??

Thanks...
Justin...

Not the best video but it gives you an idea of how it flies with a saito 180 four stroke on the Yak.

Had some time to work on the Yak....
Here are some picts.....
Mounting the servos in the tail makes balancing easy.....

I would hate to have to add all that weight in the back just to get it to balance due to not moving the sevos in the back...

The picts seem a little oout of focus.....
I will have to repost when I get a chance......

It will have a CF tuned pipe in the future

Hey guys.....

IT Flies!!

Plenty of power......

Couple of issues......
The elevators somehow got glued at different hights..... ( guess the holes were off from the factory??? Not sure but it is lower than the other side)

Test flights were in very windy conditions so I will let you all know how the next flight goes.....

This will be when I get a chance to really wring it out and see what it can do..........

I unfortiounatly may think that it is over weight with my current set up.......

I am not sure yet.... I will let you all know.....

sounds good.......

My engine is only 42 oZ or a half a pound more than if I went with a 32OZ engine so I think it should be okay.....
This is what I came up with after I did some number crunching.......

Bad news.....

I abondoned the use of the 40 in this airframe..... Just too heavy...

I will either place a 1.20 AX w/tuned pipe or place a ST 2300 in it.....

I have seen guys running this engine and it has always worked well for them....

Back to the drawing board........ I may place the engine in the new 50cc GP reactor or in my GP Aeromaster.....

I flew mine with the 40 but it was vribrating so bad it shook the throttle tray lose and I was coming in too land it and as I throttle back A little it died and yes it went down too but i was lucky i went in on tall grass and there was very little damage.

I am going to start building mine this winter, what is the most weight a guy should put up front in the way of engine?

Sorry to hear the gasser did'nt work for you. This is a typical 11-12 pound plane, if it were 9lbs it would be very light. With the saito 180 in it it is not too heavy and it has plenty of power. The new Saito 180 did shake it bad until I got it broke in and now it is great. There is no sense (maybe $) in going with the Saito 150, it is the same weight and less power.

Mine way vibrating bad untill I installed a homemade Hyde mount..... It was sooooo smooth after that ,,,,, It was unreal or how well those things work!>>...

I pulled the 40 off and I am thinking about a ST 2300...... or a 1.60 FX...... not sure though.......
A saito 1.80 is only 100$ more so I will see.....

I would place anything in it that doesn't require you to move the servos out of the fuse and into the back of the fuse for balancing.....
For some reason, it seams to throw the good performance right out the window!!!! Too much weight out board??? I not sure why but it flew AWFULL~~~~
If I was a inexperienced pilot , I would have Dumped it FOR SURE!!!!

Lucky to get it down in 1 piece~~

I'm not sure about your assesment on the servo placement. Placing the servos and the battery to the rear is a great way to balance the needed engine for this beast. The Saito 180 in my opinion is the best solution for this plane. The YS is also a great solution but more dollars. The os 1.20 may not have the torque and power and the 160 may work fine.

My plane flys awesome with the saito 180. I can do anything with this plane. The only complaint is a slight rollout on knifeedge. I am experimenting with the CG for the best flying. Right now 5 1/2 back.

Help with my Yak 67 from Goldberg????? I've got about a dozen flights on it with a Saito 1.25 and a 15X4W APC. It flies well, but has a serious stalling issue.
Any time I do a high G maneuver it stalls out of it, almost put it in the ground twice because of it. Help??????????????????

Aerobat55 I don't think your prop is large enought too pull the plane. In saying that I think you are under power with the Saito 125.Only my thinking, I have A Saito 150 in mine but I haven't got too fly it yet and i my still be under power my self i don't know yet. They are flying this plane with A 180 i hera and it is doing great they say.The big cowl on the plane needs A biger prop too get the pull it needs only my thinking.I have A 17x6 on my 150 Saito and it is turning it 9000 and running rich as it is A new Black Knight Saito.Hope this helps .

I would have to agree with granddad,,

If you look at the compittion, there cowls are smaller...... Is what is happening is that the prop wash is not gettin to the elevators or aielerons effectivly....
You can remidy the problem w/o changing props or placing a different engine in it.....

If you look at a GeeBee, they have VERY VERY LARGE cowls....... But fly well....
You need to look at where the cowl attaches to the engine firewall......The answer is starring right back at you.....
You need to make a cowl ring and add spacers so that the cowl is pulled from the fuse and has a air space between the two....
This will allow the air to pass over you elevators and eilerons more effectivly....

I am going with a engine I have.......
It is a OS 1.20 AX 2-stroke with a Muffled tuned pipe swinging a 17X6 APC.
I wanted this to be my practice IMAC plane and 3d try outs ( less worries if crashed) but I am not sure what it will be able to do.
I really don't care about hovering a plane..... (boring IMHO) but if a plane hovers you get a good idea of what it can do......
I really wanted a engine in this plane that could pull it smoothly through a Imac routine A better than 1-1 ratio is recommended for this... I guess I will see....
My prevy set up just had too much weight up front....

I will post my results....

Saito 125 with a 15x4 is under proped. A 125 is lite weight, but does not have the umph for this size plane. Try a 17 x 4 apc and 30 heli fuel and see what she does. I use a saito 180 and a 17 and 18 inch and have plenty of umph and prop outside of the cowl.

Servos are inside on this one like the instructions and my goldberg extra 300. My spare Yak 54 has the modifications for the servos put in the tail like my funtana 90, my cap 232, my extra....
