I am picking one of these up in a couple days and need engine advice..
I have the following Engines I can use.
An OS .46 LA. Really this engine is way under powered for it's class. I prefer to use it on a .30 sized plane.
MDS .48 I have not run this yet and I know MDS's reputation so I am a bit hesitant to use it.
Now my thoughts really were to pick up either an OS .46 FX or one of the New Evolution Engines from Horizon.
I know the OS is considered the standard but I have heard good things about the Evolution engine as long as you take the Flywheel off and get rid of the 3 bladed prop. It is also considerably less..
Now the Displacement and RPMs on both of those is the same however I have been unable to find the HP of the Evolution.
Normally I prefer 4 strokes. But Cost considerations is keeping me in the 2 stroke field for this plane.
However if I come into any money I would probqably put either a Saito 56 or 72 on it.

If you don't want to buy another engine I would use the MDS. On a bird like that I would just break it in on the bench. I've had great luck with MDS engines. They just seem to like extended break-in periods. Good luck.
P.S. I love you

I have more experience with MDS than I care to admit. Break it in with at least 10 full tanks before you fly it. All RPM's. Leave your idle high because with a bipe, you need it anyway as it will slow down quick.
Actually, the 46 LA will fly it just fine. Not a powerhouse but with authority. With the OS it will be capable of 98% of the standard aerobatics. Plus unquestionable reliability.
You have two good acceptable choices that you currently own. Keep an eye out here in the swap shop for a deal on a more powerfull engine, meanwhile fly it with what you have.
Good luck,
Mike

Thanks Mike.
I have heard nothing but bad things about the 46 LA and this one has never been started.
TO bad there isn't a way to supe it up a bit. =\
I didn't realize the difference when I got it and now I am kicking myself...
I do tend to agree with you on the MDS. The two .40s I have used have given me mixed results. THey run great when they run but any problems and they just never want to work again.
They both became targets at the Shooting range.
What I really want to do is put my Saito .56 on this. And I may well steal the one from my Aresti that has yet to be in the air.
I could always wait a bit longer and get another Saito for that plane...
Hmmmm Or should I just spring for a Saito .72 on this one.
I can't make up my mind..
I just got engaged.. I must save money. But the Purr of a 4 stroke.,. It is like ambrosia...

Sell them both and buy 1 really nice engine... (?)
Nothing wrong with either of those but you really need something that has adequate power and is very reliable-
I always make trades on here, trust me someone needs each of those engines and has something to give for them*
Best of luck,
james
Saito 72 would be thee hot ticket!

I have one to finish also. I plan on using a Webra .50 on mine. You might not be satisfied with a .46LA. Not really enough performance. A .46 FX would be much better. I wouldn't worry about O.S.quality. O.S. makes an excellent product. A .50 SX is probably an even better performer than the .46FX.
If money isn't an issue,a saito .56, .65, or .72 would be good too...
MDS might require caution....

Make sure you let me know how she flies when you get her done. I have been wanting to get a bipe myself. I haven't gotten them yet but I just ordered 2 A.S.P 52 2 strokes from Justengines
They are supposed to have great power. A.S.P engines are exactly the same as magnum engines. Justengines is in great britian but shipping is fast I ordered a .91 2 stroke and it took 5 days to get here.
here is a brief review of the .52 read review

Saito 56
Saito 72
Webra 50
TT 46 pro
??
I got the Webra for the Morris knife, but put the 72 on it instead. It shakes so much it broke off the carb mount. So I may put the TT 46 back on the knife. Got the Webra for a patriot that I'll probably finish building in 2005.
thanks for any input / opinion.
