Happy Holidays Folks!
I'm entertaining which engine to mount to a WM Extra 330. (60 -90 2S) I've never owned a YS engine and love the way they idle and wish to piut one on this bird. Will this be too much engine? I'm not into 3D flights. I look forward to any/all comments.

I'm not familiar with that model, but I've got a couple of the YS-110's...
It kind of depends on how good you are at throttle management since the YS is capable of more power output than say a Saito 125. I've got one of these engines in a Funtana 90 with the 70" span weighing about 9 lbs. and I live at 4500 ASL which means we lose about 20% of an engine's output during the summer. The YS will haul it around with authority.
YS engines are not for the faint of heart and require careful attention to setup, but once there they are really nice. As you noted the low idle speed of these engines constantly amazes the glow guys at my club and a couple have tried the YS after seeing mine run, but none of them were happy with the engines as they couldn't seem to make them run right.
You must also realize that YS calls for a minimum 20% nitro and oil mix fuel, but they really run best including the low idle speed on 30% heli fuel.
The last thing I might mention is that they are usually very hard to come by and will generally require backordering and waiting for stock. Occasionally you might stumble into one in stock somewhere, but I had to wait for both of mine.
Not trying to discourage you as I think they are great engines, but they are high performance engines and as such do have their own rules you must live by or they will frustrate the h*ll out of you...

Hi Ed. My .02 for ya. I've got two 110s. One in a Mayhem 3D 72" and one on a JBB with a 80" wing. The one on the Mayhem went through a crash on my VF xtra 300 and bent the crank. Up until the maiden flight I hadn't got it to run good enough to fly it. However, I must say that the crash wasn't the fault of the engine. I sent it back to YS and they replaced the crank ($158.) and did some warranty work and it was a different engine when I got it back. It idles great and has more than enough power on the Mayhem. Sooooooo, I thought, I'll sell my G26 which dead sticks about a third of the time, and get another 110 for my Big Boy. It came and I mounted it and after about a gallon of 20/20 I still couldn't get it to run good enough to fly it. So I sent it back to YS for a check up (under warranty) and Richard said it had some gaskets leaks. When I got it back it started without incident but I still haven't got it running to suit me. Not like my other one anyway. I have flew it once though and it didn't quit till tried to turn around after landing and taxi back to the pits. I've got some instructions from Dave on the YS forum that I'll try, maybe I can get it going. I haven't touched the one on the Mayhem since it came back, I'm afraid to. It runs like a watch
Now I will say, they have an amazing amount of power. I'm telling you, my son-in-law won't stand in front of it at high throttle even with the tail trap holding it. I looks like it's gonna pull the stab off.[X(] It will most definitely fly the model you're getting. Zeeb, I think I'm gonna try some 30 Heli fuel and see if that will get the other one running well too.

You will go nuts with the YS110 on that plane. My pal has one with the TT120 2C turning a 15x6 it was really superb. Now with the YS110 its lighter and you can happily turn a 16x6 at about 9,700 RPM. Your vertical will be awesome. My pal's plane can turn a 16x6 but he preferred the 15x6, I had a few flights and it was nice. Only problem was the plane was nose heavy because of the TT120. The YS110 will be just right. However, that sort of power is really fun for 3D.
The YS is a superb engine, trouble free ... if there are leaks then you will not get her to run right, I had a leaking gasket when I took the engine apart ... that was the only time I had problems. First start of the say is always with a starter, after that, I only back flip!

Thanks for the good info. Due to many projects, I'll not be able to assemble the plane and have it ready for it's first flight until this spring. I'll make sure to let you know my thoughts when that happens.
Thanks Again,
ED
