Which Hangar 9 Warbird

Hi Guys,
I want to add a Hangar 9 60 size Warbird ARF to my hangar, but I'm having a hard time picking one. Anyone have pros or cons for the different models?

Don't buy the Hellcat. I have one and its a maintenance nightmare with those rotating retracts. Any kind of landing that is not perfect will result in bent parts and/or the need to adjust the retracts. It flys great but the retracts a such a headache that mine is going in the next auction. I understand from all my comrades at the field who have Hanger 9 60 size birds that the retracts are problematic regardless of the bird. But, at least the Mustang and P47 etc. that do not have rotating retracts should be a little less hassel than the Hellcat. And yes I do fly off of pavement so the runway is not a excuse for such poor quality. Thanks, Jerry.
BTW, I do have the Hanger 9 150 size P47 which appears to have higher quality all the way around than the 60 size birds. I have not flown it yet so I can not comment on the long term viability of the retracts in this larger Hanger 9 product.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have any planes with retracts and was concerned about them. I had not thought that the rotating ones would be worse, but it makes sense. The 1.50 sized P-47 and P-51 look great, but I'm not sure I want my first warbird to be that large. FWIW my other planes are .40 sized GP Extra, Sig Somethin' Extra, .60 sized GP Spacewalker, 1.60 sized GP Extra 300.

My h9 60 size Mustang flies very well, although I did some beefing up at the firewall, the horizontal stab, and the retract mounts. I also changed the retracts to Spring Air retracts (www.retracts.com). The p47 should fly well also, from what I have heard. Most arf warbirds have retract issues, especially those with rotating retracts. Some who fly off paved runways or who have real good landing skills report few problems. many have at least beefed up the retracts to use 3/16 music wire.

Are you guys using .60 size engines in these warbirds, or something larger?
Do any of them have bad tendencies like tip stalling on landing? Some of the ads say "fly like a sport plane."
Wish I had room in my hangar for all of them

Believe it or not... [sm=lol.gif] The Hanger 9 J-3 Cub can be considered a Warbird. The Americans and the Germans used the J-2 and 3 in WWII. I'm getting the PNP version. Look on the Net, you'ld be surprised of the amount of action the Cub played in WWII. I read one story that a Pilot took out his Service Revolver, and shot down a Stork. [sm=lol.gif]
I also read some where on the Net that one Cub got captured back and forth between the Americans and the Germans 3 times! All those years of me getting Rated in a Real J-3, and I never knew that. So Technically, I guess I really used to fly a Warbird.[sm=72_72.gif]

I ve got the h9 hellcat, p51, 150 size p47, and the 60 size p47 and the new spitfire, the retracts are a bit cheap but i have not had that much trouble with them. I think the 60 size p47 and the hellcat fly the best, but the new spitfire seems to like to snap on you in a fast tight turn, it happened to me on my maiden flight and scared the crap out of me, i thought i had lost her for sure, but i was able to recover., its did it several more times, but i fly them like a bat out of hell anyway, and i should fly them more scale like.....so thats probley why
. Why dont you try the h9 p51 pts version, its a good little warbird, i have one of those all so and its one of my favorites......

The hangar 9 At-6 is a great flyer, and is very easy to see,yellow and blue. I have a os 91 which fly's it well. The retracts work great although I installed the robart heavier wire. cost @ 18.00. What I like about this plane is it can fly so slow and look very scale.
