Avistar Models
#1
I have searched the RCU forums and have even consulted the Hobbico web-page and havent been able to find the differences between the different Avistar planes. I know of the Avistar Select, Avistar 40MKII, and the Avistar AWARF w/monokote. Which is better?? I "had" the Avistar AWARF w/monokote and found it flew well. Which would YOU recommend? Thanks for your time and help.

I have the avistar that is not covered with monoKote another guy at our field has one that is covered with monoKote the plane is the same except for the covering. I would go for the monoKote covered on. The other is pretty much a big sticker.

Tycer, going on memory but the Select version comes with radio and is mostly prebuilt with radio equipment installed. Wing goes together with a metal rod and strap with screws. Tail surfaces bolt on.
Both arf's, shelf-paper covered or monokote, require that the wing and the tail be glued on with epoxy. If you have the radio, etc. go for the monokote version.

This plane was very popular at my old club field:
Avistar Select : RTF with OS 40 LA and Futaba 4 ch radio installed. As previously mentioned the wings slide on a metal rod and the tail bolts on. Monokote covering.
Avistar w/Monokote: ARF with monokote covering. Just like the RTF, except glue on wings and tail and a small removable hatch over the fuel tank.
Avistar MK II: ARF covered with shelf paper.
They all fly great. RTF is easy to get up and flying quickly. ARF lets you choose your engine and radio that you can transfer to your next plane.
