My Feedback: (9)
Hey..........I got one! It's light and it flies great. BUT! ...It's stand off scale only. Landing gear, wing struts, cowl, --NOT true scale. It was built by the same folks overseas that built the first fabric covered J-3 cub for H9 way back when. Minicraft I think was the name. Has flaps and big fat cub tires, though. Nice touches. My advice, get the new H9 cub. A new H9 Supercub may be on the heels of the new J-3 and then you'll kick yourself for not listening to me 'cause you're gonna want the new Supercub when it comes out. Just looking out for your wallet, my friend. I'm an impulse buyer and as a result I've got an acre of planes hanging and sitting around.

Anonymouse..........now what kind of an answer to my questions is that.........you didn't even give it any thought........if you don't know.......just say, "I dunno"
Now, once again...................I found a H9 Super Cub.....never flown.....no engine.....what do you suppose it's worth..........do you know what they originally sold for?
Outacontrol, the mouse is losing it..........he's becoming undependable. However, your advice is probably sound...........but, just in case the Super Cub is priced way under the J3, I'll keep my eye on it and see what the owner's plans are. Who knows, maybe the Tarro Cards say I should own both!.............Lord help us in our moment of weakness....

Ok, how's this for a more direct answer......The Super Cub was available in Dec 2002 it was 100 inch wing span and required a 1.20-1.48 2stroke or a 1.50 - 1.80 4 stroke aor a Zenoah G-23. List was higher than the actual price of $449.99. You will be able to buy a NEW 105", more to scale, new Hangar 9 Cub that will use the same engines for the same price. If you want the "Super" then I would think a reasonable price would be $275.00 to $300.00. Personaly I would wait a month or two for the new Cub. squeek

Mouse, now thats what I call detailed and direct.............you have redeemed yourself admirably..........and........I agree with your counsel. Unless the Super Cub is a steal, and I'm sure it won't be.......the new cub is probably the way to go..............But, you never know when somebody elses junk may become your treasure...........I'll keep my eye on the cub just in case..............................
Did you see Outacontrol started talkin cats again............I think he's fixated............

Well big Cubs abound in our club. There are two World Models 1/3 and one Model Tech 1/3 now and I'll have the Hangar 9 1/4 scale later in the year. I think it is August when another local club has their annual "Cub Nuts" rally, and I think I'll have to settle with my teeny 1/5 for that event, if it lasts through the Cub pylon races in July. Last year Cub nuts had 14 planes in the air at once, what a sight. I haven't checked with my cats (3) to see if any are interested in flying, but they are always there to assist in the building.....

Just for fun here's a couple of pictures of one of the 1/3rd Cubs, I think World models. The ones with the broken gear were taken a couple of weeks before the other one. The gear is a functional scale gear and cracked a pivot point on a hard landing (touch and go) and seperated in flight. That was the only damage to the plane. Due to good piloting skills, unlike mine, the plane was not even scratched.

I think I am the only Cub nut in our group, however there is another guy that is a Crop Duster Fan...........he just got a 72" Air Tractor short kit.........and he's a good builder so that should be a fun one to watch.
Your pictures do tell a story........not sure I would have been as successful getting back on the runway with only one wheel. You are the only one I know of that has seen both the Model Tech and the World Models 1/3 scale cubs side by side. So, which one is better?
Maybe a more precise question would be: Which one would you want and why? At one time I thought I would like to have one..........I've got good radio equipment and a great G-62 with electronic ignition...........and I love Cubs. But, just how much hassle is it hauling the thing around trying to get it to the flying field.
I've got a full scale strip in my hay field..........maybe with the right tires I could fly it there..............anyway, I hesitated because of the perceived hassle of dealing with a 1/3 scale plane............maybe its not that bad.......you tell me????????

Tried to upload 6 photos, but having trouble doing it. Let me say that I have flown the Model Tech and it is as easy to fly as the best trainer I have flown. Easy to land and takeoff and has good solid response in flight. I will say the same about the World, but haven't flown it. Both these airplanes have scale operating gear and air filled tires which makes ground handeling and landing easier (less bounce) not stock. Both are about $700 and the Model Tech is the smaller at 132" wing and wieghs about 27 or 28 lbs. The World is 141" and the wing has some dihederal where the Model Tech doesn't. The World wieghs 28 lbs. Both require about an 80cc engine, both these planes have I think 60cc twins one of which is a 3W the other ???. Both fly well both look good in the air and on the ground but are not really scale and both owners are satisfied with what they have. The World is covered in a fabric and the Model Tech a plastic film ( heavy). I'll see what my problem is with the pics, I think they are too big and I need to reduce them to a more managable size. Both owners have trailers they have rigged up to carry up to three big planes in along with support gear. I know that the 1/4 I am getting will fit in my Astro Van, but not sure about the 1/3. That help some?

I'll do the pics this way...1. The World Models in the trailer along witha Super Flying King and a Sig Bipe and a couple of electrics. 2. The Model Tech and a GP Pitts and a couple of electrics. 3. My trailer on the way to the pits ( not msipelled, the dumping pits) Three to come

I'll settle for this one....The two side by side, the World in the foreground. One other thing, The World has access to the radio and interior through a door on the right side, the Model Tech has access through a panel on the top of fuse.

well mouse, I gotta say you are good at picture uploading.............
Thank you so much for the education........now that I'm almost as smart as you on these big birds, I think I have to choose the World Models Cub.........I like the idea of fabric versus plastic film.................and I like the idea of side door access.
Was the gear after market? Do you know if it was Wallace gear.

I wish we could have a "Cub Nuts Rallye" within driving distance of Chattanooga, TN, some time. I must have three or four Cubs in my fleet. All 1/4 scale and smaller, though.

Yes the gear is after market. The World has Robart . The other is not, and it may be Wallace. In my earlier post I said 60 cc, wrong, in the World it is a ZDZ80 twin. Again if you check the Giant Scale Forum, there is a web site in one of the posts that leads you to a build thread with all that info with pictures for the World Model Cub. Look for the post by ds1rc......Cliff
