Check with Alex @ AK-Models.com, he advertises them on his website and has the best price I've seen on them.
That being said, I've got the 46 sized version and the small electric one. Fun and different.

Hi Rube, thanks for the info... looks like the model maybe at least available then, Ideally I want to try and find a supplier a little closer to me (Sydney Australia) as shipping would likely be more than the kit cost from AK-Models...
I wonder if anyone has built and flowen the large 160 version yet???
Rube what do you think of the quality of the smaller one you have ie wood and build and accessories?
Cheers- Marty

I am also interested in the 160. What would be the best, economically priced engine for it? Super Tiger 2300 or a ST 3250? Is there an better engine for it? Gasoline powered perhaps?

Hi Marty,
Have no idea what the cost to ship one of the big ones to you would be, but you might inquire with Alex just to find out.
The little electric one I have is the Richmodel version. I had been flying it with an E-Flite Park 450 motor and it was quite sufficient to make it "moderately quick". Then I tried one of the Richmodel "Richmoto" R28C-1 motors with the same ESC and battery and the thing is an absolute bullet. For the money, those Richmotos are a LOT of bang for the buck.
The small Long-EZ does have some funky habits in flight and landing. At more than probably 30 degrees bank in a turn at anything less than say about 75% power it will "bob its' nose" around the turn. What is happening is that the canard is going through a repetitive stall/flight condition that causes the "bobbing". You need to land it with power on and at a speed that it won't "bob" or else if you are on the downside of the "bob" near the ground you'll probably wind up with a rough landing. Bending the stock nose gear wire forward after ANY landing is common procedure. It is rather maleable wire....and the plane is a tough little bird.
The larger 46 size one I have is the Fly-Models verison, the yellow one that I bought through Raidentech. Powered with a Supertigre GS45 ABC engine it is plenty fast and very smooth. Doesn't exhibit the "bobbing" situation in any flight attitude. Glides forever with the power off. Initially I had an OS 46AX engine installed, but it would run hot with the cowling in place. I'm rather fond of the Supertigres, and the GS45 with its extensive tall thin cooling fins on the cylinder head seemed like it would do better. Running 10% nitro through the ST it is very happy and does not overheat with the cowling in place.
Neither one of the models is very good on grass fields, unless the field is manacured to that like a putting green. Especially the little one. I've tried it with much larger wheels and even that didn't reduce the instances of a canard strike with the ground that will break the canard loose. After several repairs I just gave up on grass field flying altogether with either one of the Long-Ez's.
As for quality, that's kind of a toss up. I do prefer the covering material that the Fly-Models factory uses over the Richmodel. Both are very well constructed. If you are new to the Long-EZ's, I'd suggest the 46 sized one to try first.
Good Luck, hope that helped!
Rube

Danny, My plans are a little different to yours Iam guessing if I can get one of these Long-Eze's, see pic below re- what engine for my Long Eze...
If I was going with glow engine possibly either a Moki 1.8 or a 4 stroke 180 size engine would likely be my choice.....
Rube, Thanks for the feed back, as to grass field landing woes what about adding a little crow into the ailerons and landing a little quicker??? that would avoid the canard stall, that said Iam suggesting this based on having seperate servos for each aileron.

The cost on the web site says shipping included. I have been eyeballing this also. The 160 would be a perfect size but i will not pay for a 1.60. If I do, it will be a 3250.

Hello, just finish my model but having trouble to get it balanced; I tried acording to the manual but looks like it needs lots of weight in the nose, or the manual C.G. is wrong.I tried using the weight bars that came with the model plus some G.P. weight squares, but stiil tail heavy, so I was thinking the 451 mm C.G. distance in the manual for the Long EZ 160, is some forward that it really should be.I put a O.S. Max 1.60 with a slimline muffler an a 16x10 3-blade pusher prop. from Master Airscrew ands a aluminum Tru turn spinner.
Those who have this model what have done to get it balanced?
Thanks, Isaias G.
