Misc. Hardware.

the poll shows the tower hobbies uproar .40 won out. i bought a uproar.40 last year from tower. when it arrived i was stunned to see it had major problems. the fuselage had a bad twist in it the right wing panel wing tip was really messed up. it was very very poor quailty workmanship.the covering had a very large sag in that would not shrink out. i sent it back to tower and they sent me confirmation by e-mail that it was a defected arf and gave me credit for it.but when i tried to get my $17.50 back for return shipping to them..........forget it!!....hope you don't have these problems if you choose the uproar.

Now wait just a cotton pickin minute, this ain't Florida and the 2000 election
I just threw in a vote for the H9 Ultra Stick, now it's in the lead
I put in that vote based on my experience with H9 ARF's and their overall high quality, heck they even tell you the stock number for the Ultracote covering used, OK maybe that makes me a little biased as I have used U-cote since the late 80's, and having matching covering for "maintenance" is a big advantage.

It's not on the list, but I've always like the Sportsman Aviation Sport Stick: http://hobbypeople.net/gallery/127522.asp

One of these days I will get one.

Hey, thanks for the input. I checked out the Sport Stick, it looks fun!. It's going on the poll.

Have you ever flown this plane and if so, how does it fly with a .46?

I have the ModelTech Lucky Stick (same as the Sport Stick, but with a high wing). I bought it as a cheap knock-around plane. It QUICKLY became my favorite aiplane to fly. It flys fast, rolls fast, lands great, loops great etc...I sanded the dihedral out of the wing and converted it to a taildragger. With a foam core wing, this plane is REALLY tough. I had a magnum .46 xls in it and it just screamed. I just put a magnum 52 xls and it just got better. Unlimited vert w/ a 10x7 prop. It's my "go to" airplane when it's windy out too!

I can't count the number of comments i have rec'd on this plane's performance. It's a real winner

All said and done, it's an awesome airplane. I got it when it was on sale for $70

Never flown it myself but I have always liked the look of it. There is a review here on RCU: http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=767

Ultra Stick is the most aerobatic. It also has a good size rudder with couter balance for great flat spins, rudder turns and knife edge. There are a few threads on the Stick about not flying knife edge easily. It actually flies knife edge very well but requires a good deal of coupling with elevator and aileron. The Ultra Stick also comes with both full length ailerons and aileron / flap options in the box and you decide which way to build the wing. The plane flies best with the full ailerons if you like faster roll rates, hovering, rolling circles and harrier rolls. You can still program flaperons into the mix for short take offs and slower landings with the full length ailerons. If you build it with the aileron / flap option, you will have the normal flap funtions and the ability to fly in crow mode. Crow brings the flaps up and ailerons down which allows you to point the plane straight down without gaining alot of airspeed. It also requires two more servos.

I flew mine for quite a while with the OS .46 AX and it pulled the plane around just fine. It would even allow you to hover at around two thirds throttle. Three months ago I went to the new OS .55 AX and picked up quite a bit of speed and the power to hover at around one half throttle.

As a fun fly plane, the Ultra Stick is perfect and if you decide to try more extreme aerobatics, you will still have a plane that can handle the job.

The second picture shows the .46 AX and the third shows the .55 AX.

I'm kindof looking for a plane that nobody else has. I was at the field last night and there were 5 H9 sticks! Albeit they fly great, but I like to swim against the current. I'm kinda interested in the SA Sport Stick. The review made it sound great and it looks the coolest of any plane. Unfortunatley, the O.S. is now enlisted for service (ACE Bingo), So what would be the ideal engine for this plane? I want this plane to float around and fly kindof lazy, but it would replace my Twist as my fun-fly plane (the twist is getting a facelift, reborn as a non-coupling, totally nuetral 3D plane).

I saw a Sport Stick Saturday with a Saito .72 and it appeared to have unlimited performance; and it sounded great.

i have the h-9 ultra stick with a jett 46 on it. it is by far the best plane i own. i have had 3 s.a. sticks. while they are fast, they also seem unstable for some reason.i also own a hot stick . it is a very acrobatic plane. russm

I voted for the new Goldberg Hot Stik .40; I'm like you in that I prefer to fly something a little different and the Hot Stik would definitely stand out on the flight line.

I like the Sportsman Aviation Sport Stik, though, and I think it too would be a lot of fun as an everyday sport flyer. A Magnum XLS .46A 2-stroke or a Magnum RFS .52 4-stroke would be a nice match for one if ultimate speed weren't your first priority.

If you want to roll the dice on something off the beaten path, the VMar Xtreme Stik is available in a low-wing or shoulder wing version, and it's designed to look more like the Ultra Stik with regard to the tail design:

[link=http://www.richmondrc.com/vma/storecusavma/productpages/productpage_cusa_vma_x240x.htm]VMar Xtreme Stik Low Wing ARF[/link]

VMar ARFs can vary a lot in quality, but their stiks have traditionally been some of their best models.

I have a Thunder Tiger Tiger Stick .40 ARF that I've been flying for a few seasons now. It's a lot of fun with a ball-bearing .46 on the front of it. I actually fly mine with a Magnum XLS .52A 2-stroke, I like how the blue cylinder head matches the covering.

Shopping for a Stik can be a difficult task, there are so many great choices from so many great companies! Nobody has even mentioned the Bipe Stik ARF available from Cedar Hobbies yet.

So anyway, like I was saying, go with the Hot Stik...

bought a cedar hobbys stick on ebay last winter. put it up and in in about 60 seconds due to the worst ail flutter i have ever heard. i would stay away from cedar hobby products. forgot to mention, my hotstick has a os 50 sx in it. it is a nice combo.

I'm kind of looking for a plane that nobody else has.
Better look at something else than a stick.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/attac...mentid=1153779

I have written page after page about the Hangar 9 Pulse, so in the interest of saving wear and tear on my fingers, I believe it is probably the best alternative on the market to the stick type airplane. Here is my review:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=632497

http://www.hangar-9.com/Products/Def...ProdID=HAN4125 (also available as an ARF, but i couldn't find the link)

I'm kind of sick at looking at sticks myself, but I've been flying them since 1977. I've had them in all sizes and colors, nitro and electric, high and low wing. Even though they don't look so great, and I've already had too many of them, there is really nothing like them and you need to have at least one if for nothing more than to use a test mule for radio equipment and engines. Not so oddly, that's exactly what Phil Kraft designed the original Ugly stick for in the early 60s.

I'm afraid any stick you get isn't going to be as nice as the Ultra Stick, so you are either going to have to have the same Ultra stick as everyone else, or settle for something less. Or...........you can try something a little different. The Pulse flies very similar to an Ultra Stick, though is is slightly less aerobatic. It makes up for that by being smoother and more forgiving, and certainly more attractive.

yes,...but i believe the best stik's ever made were old midwest "sweet stik's". very popular back in the early and mid 1980's....but they were kits not arfs. they made excellent 2nd planes after you learned on trainers. they had a 52" inch wingspan with no dihedral. once you mastered the 'sweet stik' you could fly about any sport plane. sometime ago hanger 9 came out with a arf stik (not the ultra stik) that had the same spec's as the old sweet stik but it was heavy and did not fly as good as the midwest stik.

If it is the H9 everybody loves, then wich size should I go with. I might just buy the SA sport stick and hang It in my room untilanother plane is freed up. I figure, if I put together the SS, then it will be ready to accept engine and radio on no time's notice!
So other than the SS, whick is the best sized U-Stick?

If you already have a .46 AX then get the 40 size, otherwize you are going to need another engine.

I'm setting up my H9 stick(.60 size)that was a xmas gift. What size servos are you guys installing.I have a number of ST47 BB (JR) serv0s.horizon said they were fine .agree or not??I am also inclined to use a 6 volt battery which ups the torque from 47 oz.in. to 57 oz. Planning to fly it over the holiday weekend.
and my engine will be a new os surpass 91 that I havent used yet.
