Default Extra 300 xs building

Hey guys, i just build the extra 300 xs by SIG and it is a magnificent looking plane. the question I have is I used the Robart Large Pin hinges and are not quite sure if they are as good as the giant scale flat hinges. has any body use the robart and can give me some feed back??

Thanks;
Tony

I used the Robarts for my new Midwest 80" Extra and they are holding up great. I don't think you'll have a problem; just be sure to test them by tugging on each surface after they are joined.

Thanks for the response. The plane looks great. can't wait to fly it. It's snowing again here in NJ so i guess i will have to wait a little longer.

Make sure you grease the knuckle before youepoxy them in. I found Vaseline works well.

The gentleman that I learned to fly with flys turbine jets, and only uses the robart or comprable brand hinges. If it works on a jet why not anything?

Sound advice on the vasiline.
Neat trick is to heat it up until it is liquid and then bend the hinge in half and dip the pin and hinge area in leaving the area to be glued out.
Also not a bad idea to clean the area to be glued with alcohol first to avoid getting any oils on them.
I used the one's that came with the kit and they survived the pull test.
I am waiting for weather for the real test.

Yes I've used the robarts and they work great. Glue them in with 30 min epoxy and put a little oil on the nuckle and your done.

Try the search feature here on RCU, it works great. There is a lot of info on robarts in several previous post.
