Hello everyone!

I recently flew my extra 300s for the first time running a K&B .45 sportster (keep in mind the engine is a few years old) swinging an 11 x 7 prop.
Plane seems under-powered and the engine shows some reliability issues....
I have a brand new Tower hobbies .75 with a bisson pitts exhaust as well as a brand new OS .46 LA.....
I'm trying to decide which engine would give this plane the power it needs....
I know the .75 would have a higher fuel consumption and the stock 8 oz tank might not cut it but at the same time i'm worried that after breaking in the OS i might be dissapointed with the power delivered.
Just trying to see if anyone has had experience with this model and these engines.

I had one with a 46AX and it was ok on power, but definately could have used more. I don't think the La is as powerful as the ax. Plane weighed around 6.5 lbs finished. I re-kitted it a few months ago, but if I remember correctly, a Sullivan 12oz slant style flex tank will fit through the former turned on its side. Has to be a slant/flex tank though or the bubble on top for the vent tube won't go through the former. Hope this helps.

There are several of these Phoenix Extras at our field, two of which have been flying now for a couple of years: one with O.S. .46AX and another with a GMS .47, both plenty of power for this model. An O.S. LA anything won't cut it. A Tower .75 is too much power, and, too heavy. Use the Tower .75 on the Phoenix Extra 330 instead - a good match.

I had the Extra with a Tower .75 motor in it and I loved it. Blueman hasn't flown one with a Tower .75 so he doesn't know if it is TOO MUCH POWER! It's NOT!!!!! I kept both servos mounted in the rear of the plane to balance and that was all it took to counterbalance.

What size prop are you swinging there and did you go with the 12oz flex tank as well?
The re-covered extra looks SWEEEEEEEEEET!
I just recieved the OS LA engine from advantage hobbies...Think they might take it back?

I'd try to give it a shot! Return that LA.....they're a little low on power anyways. It would go well on a Super Sportster .40 size!!

I ran a 14oz Dubro square tank with modification. The Tower motor will run great with that 12oz flex tank though. Had I known about it fitting well I would have put one in. The Tower motor is AWESOME in the Extra!!!!!! PM me if you need any info about it. There are a few other threads about that plane too under Airplanes Beginner Forum. Just do a search.

Today was the maiden flight of the Tower .75 in the Extra!!!!!!!!!
All i have to say is WOW........
12 x 7 zinger, a little weight in the tail by means of 60 cents in form of nickels and unlimited vertical galore!
It's almost as if the engine was MADE for the extra...
Not a lot of run time with the stock "shot size" fuel tank but a flex tank is on its way.

The landing came in VERY HOT and it was hard to slow down this bird.....The landing was firm and the wet grass field anchored the gear clean off the fuselage...
This is a weakness i read about a lot on RC universe and i decided to put some strength into the structure now with some fiberglass and thicker plywood instead of hot glued BALSA!

You can't ask for much out of a 100 buck plane but all in all it's a BLAST.

Just remember to turn the vent tube to the side of the tank (up in the plane when mounted), and the slant will give you room to route your fuel lines for a fueling valve in the side of the fuselage. I especially like how they made a removable hatch over the fuel tank compartment. Gives you plenty of room to work. Good luck!

Landing in grass is not the Extra's specialty. Especially WET grass! HAHA! Glad you like the combo with the Tower motor. I loved it! Try a 13x6 on it....it is the best prop for that motor hands down. Gives you great pull and braking. The 14x4 is not worth your time unless you want to slow it down below stall speed.[:@] Did that before!
