Anyone bought and flying this plane? http://www.nitroplanes.com/extra300s140.html
I'd like to get an Extra and the price is right here. I know that you get what you pay for, but who fly's an ARF out of the box anyway?
Mods and reinforcements are standard ARF fare. Thought's and suggestions please. Just trying to figure out if this plane is the ugly chick
with the great body and hot bikini you always see at the beach.

reincarnate,
I had the CMP Giles 202 140 and it was a great plane. I was running a Brillelli 26cc gasser. For what you pay for these planes it is a great buy. The Giles 202 was a really nice flying plane. A buddy of mine had the Extra 300 with a Brillelli 46cc up front but the engine box failed. It is a nice plane as well but like you said, re-inforce the firewall and engine box area.

Thanks Zippi. That's what I was looking for. No one I know flies CMP and I didn't know how well constructed in general they are. Appreciate it!

Nitro models carries many airframes, not all are from CMPRo I doubt. It maybe hit and miss.Like Zippi said the Giles was a great model, not all 3D stuff, but very capable. The quality was good. That Extra may be from the same design and factory. If you are looking for 3D,it probably wont satisfy.
Check the shipping costs from them,I heard the give it to you real good,to the point where you may consider another model and or supplier.Good luck

Reincarnate,
I"ve got a bunch of Cmpro planes./look at my gallery/Quite honestly, this is the only cmpro plane which is well built. No landing gear,covering,cg.,etc. problems at all.The plane is an easy to fly, very stable pattern plane./Forget 3D/
Recently I"m also using it as a skytractor, towing different type of gliders with great success. With a 30cm Moki gasser, its even able to lift a 4.5m 6kg Ash scale glider, towing it at 3/4 throttle once in the air.I love this plane.

Good morning Reincarnate! Just my two cents worth on the CMP planes. These are stocked by other companies as well. Chief Aircraft stocks CMP, as does Raiden and AK-Models.
I have their Yak 54-140 and it is a well made airplane with the exception of the glue joints around the landing gear mounting block. Those joints were made with a glue gun by running a bead where the wood intersects with the mounting block and the former in front of and behind the mounting block, and also where they mount to the fiberglass fuselage. Make sure you reinforce the landing gear area and get some glue into the joints themselves. As for the firewall, it, as is everything else is built quiet well and appears to be quiet strong. I'm not so fond of their fiberglass landing gear on this model as I have broken the right landing gear twice on mine, and an aquaintance in Houston, TX broke the left landing gear on his. Not all that fly this model have had this problem, but several have. I'm making a set of aluminum gear, and my aquaintance in Houston has done this as well.
That's the scoop on the Yak 54-140, can't say about the others, but I have read other forums on their planes and all seem quiet complimentary, especially in view of the price. These planes are built a little heavier so they are not 3D planes, but fly quiet well otherwise. My Yak (72 inch wing span) came out at 13 pounds with an OS 160 in the nose. Mose others that I know of have come out a little heavier, with some at 15 pounds (with a gas engine). Many have to add a lot of weight to the nose, which explains the extra weight. After looking at photos of a full scale Yak, I noticed that the spinner backplate is some distance from the cowl and mounted my engine far forward (the spinner backplate is 1-1/8 inch forward of the cowl), and the battery forward of the firewall as well as the throttle servo, and I still had to add about 3 ounces to the nose, 2 ounces in the form of a spinner weight, to get a CG that was not tail heavy.
I don't know what you will find on their other models, but that's the scoop on their 72 inch Yak. There are several forums on other CMP models, and most are quiet favorable if your not looking for 3D.
Would I purchase another CMP Product?? Oh yeah!
One thing you will find in this hobby as in life is that: "Experience is a hard teacher. She always gives the test first, and the lesson sometime later!"

And thanks to you too Foxx. I really appreciate anyone taking the time to answer a question.
Looking at powering with either a Mark 180 2s (glow) or a Saito 150 or 180 4s. The Mark with a pipe is winning so far.

I realize this is not my forum, but I do have one question for George after viewing his gallery of CMP models! Wow, you must have had good luck with them.
The question is, your opinion on their Extra 330L?
I'm reminded each day I get out of bed, and each time I fly that, "Experience is a hard teacher. She always gives the test first, and the lesson some time later!"
Thanks,
Phillip

Hi Guys,
Reincarnate, Pm sent.
A short clip for you.
http://www.myvideo.de/watch/2131220
Greyfoxx,
Yes,I have had good luck with them. And a lot of work, repairing.
The Extra 330 is an excellent flyer on one hand but on the other hand it has a lot of quality imperfections.Unless you not reinforced the whole fibreglassing landing gear area, landing gear its a beautiful rubbish. You have to complete what the asians not did.Anyway,If you are a good modelbuilder you will be able to complete, reinforce what necessary, and than you will get a really nice, easy to fly pattern plane.

Hi Reincarnate,
Your welcome,I"m really happy that I could help you.Yes I"m flying the gas
Moki/petrol/ Choose the Mark 180 gas/petrol/ engine.Powerful,cheap to
operate I"m using HitecHs475 servos on the planeMore than enough torque. It
was a real challenge to lift the big glider with the help of the Extra, but
turned out ,the engine would pull even biger gliders.Where I live there are
no mountains not even hills so we have to tow gliders to catch thermals, but
believe me its a huge fun.If you want to see it,you can visit us in Hungary
anytime.Btw you "ve got a nice Pitts in your gallery if I"m not mistaken
with a Fuji 50.I hated this engine, sold it in no time.The180 Moki has more
power-Im serious-.All in all, good luck with the Extra if you have any
question feel free to ask me.
Best wishes,
George T.
