I 've lost the front end, my first crash

Me stupid, didn't extend fully the antenna after tweeking the engine. MVVS .90 & short pipe, it was flying like a charm 3/4 throttle, unlimited vertical. Was going to use it for towing gliders....[:@]

I did the same thing in the spring. I was flying my 68" Stick a couple of laps around the field fairly close in and noticed I hadn't extended my antenna. Some people here have really bad mouthed Polk's Tracker III but after that I don't. I could not believe I didn't loose it.

the question now is how to clean the engine? dismantle if and soak in and antifreeze in a crockpot?

If you know this I apologize - first never ever turn the motor by the prop just after you've crashed it you'll just force any dirt into the bearings.

I turn the motor upside down and with a toothpick get all the dirt I can out of the carb and out of the fins. Then with the motor upside down I use a brush to get the remainder off. Then remove the carb and look at the bottom of the barrel and into the crankcase. If you do not see any evidence of dirt just remove the back plate and use kerosene in a squeeze bottle to flush the motor and you should be good to go without tearing the motor apart. If I see dirt in the crankcase I'll still flush the motor with kerosene and then pull it apart.

I use kereosene because it is much less flamable than gas and cheaper than glow fuel. I only use the antifreeze in the crockpot method when I want to clean the outside of the motor. It by itself won't get any dirt out of the inside. You'll need to flush it first.

I repaired one of mine by buying a new fuselage and repairing the other parts.

I cut the fuselage away from the tail surfaces with a Dremel. They looked like they were only ever on the new fuselage

Another oldie but goodie I've seen on these or any plane with flaps is not check the surfaces before you take off. They have flap/elevator mixing in for landings but have it on for takeoff and as the plane lifts off a bit , does not gain altitude and the further back you go on the sticks, the worse it gets and into the trash dumpster you go!

I've seen many planes destroyed worse than the Ultra Stick above be brought back to life. Some have even looked better than before the crash. It depends on the owner, his patience, attitude, and ability. I've seen several planes retrieved from the trash at the flying field to go on to fly again for many years by a new owner.

Set on it for a few days before you make up your mind. You may have a completely different attitude about it next month?

You may also come up with simple ways to fix it?
