Very nice Brian! How did you tint the canopy? Whats it weigh?

Hello, all I did was paint the inside of the canopy with flat black Krylon. Not sure of the weight yet but its a heffer. I'm guessing between 10-12lbs.

This animal is all ready to go. I just have to wait for a really nice day to maiden it. Damn, I didn't pay a lot of cash for this plane but the time and effort in building her really makes me nervous to fly it but I'm surly looking forward to it. It turned out to be a real sweet looker.............

Hope everyone is still around. Willhobby seems to have disappeared, and I cant even find them anymore. Mine is nearing completion, and it will deffinetly be done for this season.

Looks good. I still see a few WH planes on e-bay but from a different seller. BTW, what are you using to fasten the wings to the fuse? I had to make my own extra long screws. The front ones are imposible to get to.

I will have to do something someday about those bolts. Right now I plan to assemble it and leave it assembled since I have a trailer to transport it. Yes those bolts are the worst thing about the model. I have also pushed in one of the blind nuts and had to drill a 3/4 inch hole in the root rib to get at it and glue it back in. What a pain! I am happy with the wieghts and balance. It seems to be coming in just right. I will wiegh it as soon as I get my spinner, and put the choke servo in next week. The cowling really hides my little SPE 26cc, and I plane to put in some baffles to try and keep it cool. Sure hope spring comes soon, woke up to more snow!

Hi Guy's, I was curious to know if anyone actually flew their WH Extra and is willing to provide some info on the flight characteristics of this model. The weather has been awful up here and the plane has been ready for weeks but no go. I need a decent day to maiden this thing, I have way too much time and effort into it. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

This plane flies OK. It has a high wing loading so its wings begin to rock upon landing. I programmed flaps using 20% which seems to reduce wing rock and keeps the nose lower upon landing. I had to add weight up front to balance after moving battery far forward as possible.

Had to use Du-Bro control horns and one wheel broke upon landing. Other than that it appears to be a decent ARF.

OK, thanks, Sounds like it tends to tip stall a bit upon landings so I may need to bring it in with some power, kinda like my cap.

Had mothballed my plane while waiting to see if my difficulties were unique to my plane. Guess not. I fly off a bumpy grass field and hard landings are tough on planes.

I am very happy so far. I too would like to know where you are putting your cg and the wieght of the airplane. Mine looks like its going to be exactly 10 pounds. I have not balanced it yet but looks like its going to be within what the instructions say, but on the tail heavy side.
My SPE has about an hour and a half run time, and is really breaking in nicely. Im getting 7200 rpm on an 18x6 skorpea prop. Would like to find a 17x8! Breaking in the engine is finding all those nuts and bolts that need a little lock-tite! Hopfuly this weekend I might put a flight on it. I will let you know.

When I check the CG according to the instructions, I think almost 5" from the LE (can't remember off hand), upside down its balanced pretty good. I haven't weighed it yet but 10-12lbs sound right. Please let us know how it goes when you fly it. I'm very nervous about this animal. Thanks.

Bad news, the right aileron came loose and fluttered the right wing off the plane completely. Result was a slam into the ground pretty hard. I flew it twice before the third fatal time and it actually flew and landed pretty good. I think the CA hinges that come with it are inferior. If you haven't already, make sure those hinges are in there good. Next time I'm gonna use better ones because its actually a very nice plane. Worst thing about it is the time I spent making this plane exceptional looking and made it a very neat build, too bad I didn't realize the hinges sucked. Lesson learned........

Sorry to hear that Brian. Yes, I pretty much threw all of the hardware and hinges away that came with the kit. Didnt like anything I saw, even the wheels I replaced. I have spent alot of time trying to break in my SPE. Its running really good, but the breakin oil Im using makes a mess. I have one flight on mine. I was going nuts, and wanted to see it in the air. It was windy and cold, and I shouldn't have flown it, but I did. It flew great, for what short time I had it in the air. It even landed well, but I had quite a head wind to slow it down. I will let you know after a few more flights. I saw that Willhobby planes are back on Ebay! Hope they do better this time. Im still very happy with the model for the money. Its just not for an inexperienced builder. mgmarty.

Got another one. Thought it would be the same in every way but this one is actually a lot better quality and improved design. The covering is a lot nicer and seems more durable. The first flight on the red one and the covering was lifting up on the wing. That may have even caused the crash. The throttle servo location is a lot easier to get to as well as the wing screws. I'm

I balanced at the wing main spar which is about 5 inches from the leading edge.

Also, always seal your aileron and elevator hinge gaps using clear monokote or equivalent. It’s not that hard to do and it is a good habit.

I’ve had too many instances where the hinge failed and the monokote sealing the hinge line saved the day by preventing the control surface from separating completely.

It's ready to go. i had to add quite a bit of weight to the nose but its perfectly balanced. I used Radio South hinges this time and there's no play at all on any of the surfaces. The weather sucks right now so I don't know when it will fly but I'll let you know B-

I have been flying mine when weather permits. My engine has about two hours run time on it, and next time out I plan to run some good synthetic oil, and lean it out. I'm still very happy with the plane, wouldnt hesitate to buy another. Yes, throw away the hardware package that comes with the plane. I used none of it. I agree with Guerra, seal those hinge gaps. I always have. I use ultra coat of matching color, it is easy.
Its spring here too, and weather has really sucked for flying. Gusty winds and cold as hell. I get out when I can. Let me know how it goes Brainiax. mgmarty.

Oh, I wanted to mention. It lands nice!! I have had high wing loading on airplanes before, and know what they land like. I can chop the throttle and it settles right in like any well balanced plane I have flown. No tendancy to tip stall at all. I am happy. [)]

Glad to hear that. I was able to land my red one just once before it went in so I didn't really have a chance to get a feel for it.
