Default Dazzler ARF CG

My Dazzler ARF is now ready for it’s maiden flight, except for the CG and lateral balances.

I’ve been reading all of your postings about this Dazzler ARF and found a few threads referring to the same engine installation of a OS MAX 46 FX. They all required additional weight to the tail to correct the CG. In my case I’m finding the weigh needed to be added to the nose of the Dazzler to get the correct CG. In fact, nearly all the threads and follow up notes I’ve read about this Dazzler required additional weight to the tail to correct the CG.

I added 3oz brass prop nut including an additional 7g’s of lead to the front get the CG right.

Lateral Balance required 7g’s of lead at the opposite of the muffler.

My question is, why is my Dazzler so different to the rest of you guys that own a Great Planes Dazzler ARF?

Your comments are most welcome.

Regards
Tasman !!!

The recommended 3" CG is way off, that's very nose heavy.

Before my Dazzler ARF met it's end, I was moving the CG back. I never did find the right spot but I can tell you the manuals CG is WAY conservative.

I just hated adding lead to the plane as it was already a pig (4.5+ lbs). I had the engine (an OS .46FX) mounted as far back as possible on a Dave Brown mount.

So as you question to the difference, what servos are you running? Where did you put the battery pack? Did you change the tail wheel? Are you using the stock muffler?

What servos are you running? JR 537

Where did you put the battery pack? As per the instructions below the RX

Did you change the tail wheel? No, but the one that came with the kit looks OK.

Are you using the stock muffler? Yes.

Using a friends Great Plans CG tester (Top Tool) this was the story below:

In the end it took 15g's of lead on the front to get the CG right at 3" back from the leading edge and 9.1g's of lead at the opposite end of the muffler to get the lateral balance right.

Will let you all know how the maiden flight goes.

I have an ARF now a DAYS, however my first one was a kit, in both cases I put lead on the back.- I use standart servos and battery & Rx are behind the gas tank.

If you added lead in the front, please share the secret!!
