Pitts s12 Jamara ASP 400 radial ARF 175 cm
Hi !
I just received my Pitts s12 ,175 cm wingspan , think the weight will end up at about 7.5 kg (16.5#). It is a VERY nice buildt arf ,with beautiful colors !!

RE: Pitts s12 Jamara ARF 175 cm
I am hoping he post a video of it airborne soon! I have not worked so much on the Pitts yet ,but it will come together pretty easy ,there is not much gluing ,basically it is only the fin and stab who will be glued on ,and the hinges ,CA types are used on the fin and elev. ,and plastic types with steel pin on the ailerons.
The ASP 400 fits very well on the plane ( Have not tried the CG yet),the firewall has the right lenght for this engine ,so it will be fairley easy to attach the motor mount. The cowl has also lot of space and width. ( Very nice paintjob BTW ! )
I will use 7 MG995 servos and on standard hitec for throttle.
Here is a picture of the Pitts beside my WM Ultimate 40.

RE: Pitts s12 Jamara ARF 175 cm
Hi I just got the CMPro/Jamara Pitts S12 too...but in design 2 !
It looks awesome with the AR400 radial mounted...But I'am a little scared about the weight - eg 2600 grams is a lot, if you want to fly acrobatic/3D - but for scale it does not matter.
I was planning to use the Pitts as a test model for a new DL-50 gas engine I bought, this engines weighs 1300grams plus ignition and so on. The DL-50 engine can NOT be compared to MVVS or DA engines at all, not in materials used or performance, but the test will show if you get what you pay for. Off cause then the cowl will have to be opened up in the buttom for the muffler/extension etc. I think I will use a Krumschied canister or tuned pipe mounted under the model. Maybee it does not look scala like, but I will rather have the best performance than the looks :-) Also a pitts compact muffler is too noisy for me.
I'am planning on JR 8231 servoes on aileron/elevator and JR 8711 on rudder.
I will post some more pictures later on when I get to it...

That is a cool design too! I am looking forward to see some pictures of it
The ASP weighs about 2.8 kg , that is only the engine ,in addition i have the exhust pipes and onboard glow batteries. The engine sounded better with the bendy pipes i bought from Mick Reeves Models. The sound is absolutely worth the money Sounds better than my Norton 750!!
The plane is balanced ok according to manual with the batteries alittle to the rear. Jamara suggests the ASP 400 for this plane ,so i am not expecting any trouble.

I can't say I agree with your statement regaurding the DL engines, there lighter develope more power and there quality is just as good, true there not polished but hey for less than half the price your DL motor too could be polished.
Nice motor buy the way, have you had any mechanicle failures as yet?? I am thinking of fitting one to a 100" 10-12 kg Corsair designed for a DL 50 do you feel the 400 would have enough punch for really scale flying??

Hi!
Tom , i extended the exhaust pipes using 5 "bendy pipes" from http://www.mickreevesmodels.co.uk/ ,they are under "accesories" category. I silver soldered them to the bends who followed the engine. They are working great so far ,and it sound better than it did without ,and they do the job on collecting the greasy exhaust away from the plane . I will try to make a video when i run it next time Have you found a plane for your ASP 400?
Bignuts , I have not had any trouble with the engine yet ,but have not run it very much either. But so far it seems reliable , i have to use onboard glow and i will try to use a switch on the negative lead which i connect to the throttle servo.
The ASP is very powerful ,i use a 20x10 prop ,and it pulls it at high revs, but i have not ran the engine at max yet ,so i dont have any exact readings ,but the manual says 7200 rpm. The total weight of my Pitts is 8.00 kg ,and i think it will take of at 1/2 throttle.
I do not have experience with big planes as your Corsair ,but as i said ,the ASP is very powerful ,so it should fly it fine. You must post pictures if you do it I have had a 60 size Corsair with Saito 90 r3 BTW.
I am alittle unsure of flying the Pitts using the cheap mg995 servos i have installed ,because they have some bad tendenses ,so i will probably change to hitec 645 mg`s . When i have the servos working ok ,it will be ready to fly.

RE: Pitts s12 Jamara ASP 400 radial ARF 175 cm
A little update i am expecting to receive the servos needed very soon now ,hopefully i have it airborne in not too long time! I had it up at my airfield taxing around acouple of days ago ,and it tipped forward on its nose very easy ,so i decided that i had to move the c.g. ,back so i shortened the nose about 2.5". The plane is now hanging level horizontal when i lift it up at the factory recommended c.g.
The total weight is about 8 kg ,any input on what i might expect on my first take of ? will it be a mason-brick?? [)]

RE: Pitts s12 Jamara ASP 400 radial ARF 175 cm
Well ,the Pitts flew for the first time today! ,it was really a thrill ,my first experience with giant scale. I did not make it through the first landing though ( you had to land it with throttle ,like an Ultimate) ,the landing got bumpy ,and one of the legs broke of from the installation point in the fuse which lead to a damaged left lower wing. So now i have some repair work to do. The plane would ,i think ,been easier to land with a lighter engine ,but in the air it flew great with the ASP 400. Also i will try to move the gear as close to the firewall as it gets ,so it does `nt nose-over. I have to learn to land this plane ,it is not for freshmans , the landing gear it self is made from fibre glass ,and is very bendy and soft , so it would maybe be an idea to make new from aluminium.
Regarding the engine i have only good things to say ,it starts easy , is reliable ,and does not get hot under the cowl. I have a glow battery on board who lit the plugs from idle up to about 1/4 throttle.

Nils: Congratulations on your maiden flight! Sorry about the landing! []
It sounded windy on the camcorder, did you have a crosswind condition?
For the very brief few seconds of the video, the engine sounded good in the air! Do you not have more video of this flight?
