RE: Great Planes Extra 27% 330s
Nice job. Post a flight report. I am wondering how it will land. I have one with a DL50 and she is a beast, my favorite plane to fly. But because she came in overweight I am looking at getting stronger gear from Ohio carbon. The stock gear give just a little to much.

Thanks guys. I was given a 21x10 prop. Is this ok for breakin on a DA50? I was going to use a 22x8 but thought I would give the free one a try. What do you think?

Tim,
I just got this Extra 330 S but I would have to say that there is now an even greater need for cannister setups. Every flying field I know of has noise issues. Flying a Fuji on a stock muffler is asking for the noise police or that pesky neighbor to come calling. My H9 Carden with DA50 has a cannister and is nice and quiet. Yes, every 85cc and larger should be standard but these smaller planes would be a bonus if they came cannister ready. I think you are looking at it the wrong way. I have not decided which engine I am going to use but I know that there will be some fields that I fly at that I will have to leave this one in the trailer.

However I look at it (the question of noise and necessity for a canister exhaust system), whatever decisions are made are not up to me. I'm just giving you my personal thoughts. That said, you do have a point. And some of the future releases I've seen floating around the shop are being designed with provisions for canister exhaust pipes, so stay "tuned" for more details! ;-)

RE: Great Planes Extra 27% 330s
Been awhile since anyone posted here. I just got my Extra today. I have read this whole post and it appears that no one here has attempted/reported on the electric conversion with the brushless Rimfire 1.60.
Well, I will be doing this. I have everything and will set this up exactly as recommended in the manual (except for a Castle Creations High-Volt 85A ESC).
Per my calculations, it should come in at about the exact same weight as the 1.60 FX, but with more power running the 12S LiPo configuration.
Guess I will see. I was hoping to find something about the electric conversion.

You might want to consider the 22x8. If I'm not mistaken DA recommends a prop that will allow 6200 to 7200 rpm, But over 6500 for break in. It's worth the extra $ for the correct prop considering what you spent on the DA 50.

That is a nice looking model. I'm considering one for my next project. Don't want to hijack your thread just thought I would let you know what I did on my GP Cap 27% and GP Edge 27%. For about $50 or $60 you can get carbon fiber landing gear from GraphTech. Even cheaper if you can find a set in their discount section. The stock gear is very flexible and you may be able to save a few props with the carbon fiber. Almost no weight difference. I would like to hear flight reports when you get it in the air.

you got it! What size gas tank did you put in yours and how long can you fly for? Did you use the stock one?
*by the way, does it REALLY matter if you mount your ignition battery and ignition regulator on the outside of the firewall verses the inside?
(Or as long as you have about a foot between the ignition stuff and the rx stuff you should be fine?)

okay..i might change to maybe a 16 or 18 ounce tank. I don't want to fly THAT long. lol But does it matter if you mount your ignition battery on the outside of the firewall verses the inside? I'm just refering to the ignition stuff at the moment. =)

okay, i'm just trying to minimize rf noise as much as possible. And i'm still on 72mhz too. But the ignition module should really be on the outside right? I never see anybody who has it on the inside of there airplane.

i still have a ways to go with building it. And on top of that, i'm waiting for spring to break. But i've read and seen videos on it and it looks great! and it's good for IMAC too. =)
