Default Anniversary cub question

I bought a Goldberg Anniversary cub used but unbuilt, and have a couple of questions. First of all are the wing struts necessary for flight, or just there for decoration? Second, I need a windshield for this bird. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? I got the part no off the Goldberg web site, but you can't order direct from them. Thanks for the help.

You Might try tower. as far as the struts go I flew mine just fine with out them but then I tried that on a gp cub and the wings folded up on me seems on great planes they use balsa spars.
Still if you use some carbon fiber tape on the spars you should be fine.

kneewhack:

The struts on the Goldberg Cub are not functional. I have been flying one for years without any struts. As a matter of fact the strut on one side broke on the first flight, so I just removed both. I was thinking about using some brass tubing inside a larger tubing so the struts could flex some without breaking, but never did.

Tower does have replacement windows.

1611 K-63 Side Window $10.95
1612 K-63 Windshield $10.95

And as CCFPILOT said, the struts are only for looks. I attached mine to the wing with hinges so they could fold flat for storage without having to be removed.

One other note - Build the clipped-wing version. The full-size wing is so long that it makes turning difficult. The Clipped-wing will still be a sweet, gentle flier, but it will also not give you fits during turns.

Thanks guys. I couldn't find that part on Tower the first time I looked. I'll search further.

by the way - we had 16 inches of heavy wet snow in Anchorage Friday!

Minnflyer - I'm feeling a stupid today! I can find this part listed only on the Goldberg site. I found the airplane on the tower site, and when I selected the replacement parts, it took me to the Goldberg site. I see the the windshield there with part number etc, but cannot pull it up on the tower site to order it. Am I gonna have to order this through my lhs?
