Has anyone done a canopy release system of some sort to replace the two screws on either side. Would like to do it on a showtime 50. if anyone has any sort of pics or info on how to do it, would greatly appreciate it.

You could use a canopy latch.

You would have to cut a small hole for the latch to sit down in and also add a pin at the front to hold the canopy in place.
I have done this with a few planes. Also quite a few planes come like this.
I have a 3DHS SHP with it setup like this.

There are a couple of places in the States to order a hatch latch from. Bob Violett Models is one that comes to mind. I'm sure if you do a search, more info will pop up..........[8D]

Here is the photos of the one in the SHP.
Just the spring latch in the rear of the canopy and a tab on the front that fits into a slot.
The one in the 260 is just maganets on the bottom and on the frame of the body.

For violent maneuvers DON'T trust the magnets.....my 47" Yak throws the canopy all of the time because of the air flow thru the fuse. There's no area for a latch, so I use tape to hold the top on
