Pulse XT 40 maidened...

I had a chance to maiden my new Pulse XT this weekend. I only had time for one 5 minute flight but it was interesting. The plane is powered by an ASP 52 which as it turns out is tons more than needed, a good BB 40 would fly this this plenty fast! I added epoxy to the landing gear as suggested by other posts and used a Sullivan tail wheel assembly w/ the kit supplied tail wheel. I also epoxied the wings together permanently. The plane handles well in taxi tests. Take off was easy and in short order after starting to throttle up. For trim I only needed 3 clicks of up elevator and the plane flys hands off. I was taking it easy for the first flight so I only tried a few rolls. The roll rate seems a bit slow but I need a few more tests to confirm this. For landing, the plane is a real floater! Half way down the runway and the plane was still 10 feet over the ground. Went around again and slowed it down some more before the final turn. This time the plane landed right where I wanted it, fairly slow and perfect 2 wheel touch down with no bounce. I think its a keeper!!

I have the 60 size Pulse and LOVE it!!! Matter a fact I like it so much when my local hobby shop gets a 40 size Pulse in I plan on buying it. I have a Saito 100 in my 60 Pulse and it is way to much power, just the way I like it.
I can't decide if I want to put a Saito 82 or a O.S. 55AX in the Pulse 40, I have heard a lot of good stuff about the 55AX and would like to try one.

welcome to the pulse club - have been flying one for almost 2 years - you probably read my post on the tail wheels
it is a great all around plane!!!!! rolls will become easier - usually one way is better than the other - you'll get the touch - it is by no means a super aerobat but it will do most everything it is asked to - right side up OR right side down!.
it floats yes - but again very soon you'll get used to it - several in my club just love to watch it fly - l have just gotten into the electric side with a mini-pulse - love it too - flies much like its big brother - one of our new members last year (who actually spurned me onto the electric side) loved flying my pulse 40 (in gas) so much he is just putting the finishing touches on a new pulse 60 (yes-electric)
the pulse 40 is such a good looking plane!!!!! and will serve you well (mine has an evolution 46 and that is lots of power for me)
cheers

Maidened mine about two weeks ago. i use the EVO .46, no problems so far. I was disappointed in the roll rate to. So i maxed out the control surfaces, no problems now, LOL. It does all kind of snaps/rolls very crisply now. mine was very nose heavy, put a ton of weight on the tail and still require a couple nose up clicks on the trim. I agree it floats like crazy, still doing a lot of go round's so I don't land long. love the look of this A/C..

Fastky, if you`re looking for just a super fun to fly take-it-to-the-field-every-weekend sport plane, then I think you`ll love the Pulse. I REALLY enjoy flying mine. It`ll do more than I`m comfortable trying to do right now. I think you`re right in that it doesn`t have a blurringly fast role rate like a cranked up Extra or Edge on high rates, but it`ll do all the basics and then some. You`re right also that it`s a floater, but that won`t take long at all to adjust for on approach. Enjoy!!
