I have purchased a CAP 232-46S from World Models and need some suggestions of recommended engine, servos, setups, and any other advice for this ARF.[8D] I have heard good things about this plane and am looking forward to getting it in the air!!

a club friend has this same model and i must say it flys very good, he has an OS 70 FL 4 stroke fitted and he has Spectrum D-821 servos powered by a JR- 1100 RX pack. thats all i can tell you for now.

Not sure how much flying experience you have or how much of a "power hog" your looking for, but for raw power I'd consider a OS 55ax.. It fits in the same space as a .46 and has gobs of power... If you want that great 4 stroke sound then by all means consider the Magnum XL 70 RFS 4 stroker as the OS 70 FS II 4 stroker has been discontinued.. This is a much better engine than the new OS 70RC..

As for a radio I'd go with the Futaba FASS either 7C or 6exs..

Servos.. Your choice, but I'd consider the Futaba s3010 High torque for everything but the throttle.. there you could use a 3004

Freeair and Finchase4,

Thank you both for your suggestions. I was considering a YS63 but may look into the Magnum. Don't know much about the Magnum line of 4 strokes. I really wanted the OS 70 FS II but was dissapointed to see it discontinued. I want the engine to have the power and torque to hoover and other aerobatics. Do you think the OS 55ax will have the vertical torque I will need? Doesn't 4 strokes have my power and torque that 2 strokes? What are your comments

Hi there. I got a CAP 232-46S and the model is awesome. Very lively and aerobatic. I put in a JETT 76-L (this is their 3-D engine meant for 46 sized planes). This engine develops more power than a YS-63 is a true delight - fantastic transition (as good or better than the YS), and can take props from 12x8 to 13x6, 13x8, 14x4 and even 14x6 (the transition is a little slower on the 14x6). I find the flight characteristics to be great with a 13x6.

Just to check I also bolted on an OS 46 AX with an 11x7 and later a 10x7. OK but not the same thing as the JETT.

I suggest you take a close look at the JETT. Not cheap, but the best never is!

BTW - the CAP46s is a true delight. Fantastic plane!

atul123,

Thanks for your reply. I will look into the JETT. Never hear of it but I am new to the 3D world. I will be getting the plane for Fathers Day so I am excited.

BTW: Standard servos are just fine for the plane.

Replace the wheels with something larger if you can.

JustDreamin:

The JETT website is www.jettengineering.com. It's a small company based in Houston and they make (for the most part) racing engines that are tuned to turn smaller props. However, they have a few engines - like the 76L, that are designed to turn larger props at lower RPMs. All JETT's are 2-strokes and they have excellent construction; built very 'tight'. If you do get one, then ask Dub Jett (the founder and owner) to run the engine in for you (he charges $15 extra for this). All engines are made to order and deliveries are currently running at 3 weeks.

The engines are machined from a single block of Aluminum and are quite light: the 76L weights 15.2 oz, less than an OS 46 AX. Turns a 13x8 prop at over 10K RPM, 14x4 at 10,500 or more. The largest prop is a 14x6 (though that's getting on the heavier side). No way a YS-63 can do that. BTW - nothing against YS engines. They are great as well. In fact, I'm getting my YS-110 this weekend (along with my second JETT).

This engine works incredibly well on the WM CAP. I'v tried various props from a 12x6, 12x8, 13x6, 13x7 and 14x4. With the 13" and 14" props, the flight characteristics are excellent. This is more than the YS-63 can turn; the YS-63 is recommended with a 12x6 or 12x8 and with the large COWL on the CAP, a 13" or 14" prop is better.

In fact, I just got a second 76L and I'm also getting an Aeroworks Edge 540T. But the WM CAP is such a nice plane that I'll probably get another one of those as well.

JETTs are expensive: the 76L runs $375. An optional "TURBO JETT" in-cowl muffler is another $70. But as I said, it's a great engine and JETT provides the best technical support in the business as well.

(and no - I am not an agent of JETT. Just a big fan. I run a software company in California ; www.fiorano.com).
