I am getting a GP Big Stick40 but don't want the iron crosses. How can I remove them without damages to the underlaying covering. I will replace them with other decals

The way that I do it is to pull the decal back over top of it's self. That doesn't put alot of stress on the film or surface of the plane. The residual glue can be removed with acetone or lighter fluid (on film).

Do this... heat the covering with a heat gun, just to the point it starts shrinking.
Adjust your gun one notch down in heat.
Then peal back the edge of a cross, and apply the heat gun to the area you are about to peal back.
Work slowly.
I was able to completely remove the Prussian cross and replaced it with the U.S. star markings.
I then did an identical colorscheme in G3/G4... which looks like this...
