I'm looking to get one in this size. Who makes the best one? I've seen H9 and Laniers, both look very nice.
Thanks!

f2racer ...
My heart was set on an H9 Edge but I got tired trying to endure what seemed to be an endless backorder situation. I signed up for the Lanier version instead. Mine's completed (Saito150 - I don't care about the 3D stuff)) and I'm just waiting for warmer temps to go fly.
By most accounts the Lanier version seems to be just a tad lighter. There are some minor assembly issues but they are easily overcome. I'm relatively pleased with how it turned out. I think you could toss a coin to decide and be happy with either version - assuming you can get the H9 version in a reasonable time ... [;}

I've had nothing but thrills with my Lanier Edge. They slipstreamed in a heartier hardware pack (lucky me) and this plane rocks. It flies slow and true as an Edge should...then it can hover or do any aerobatic move you want...or can.
Hey, have you checked out the new Lanier site?

I think the Lanier version might be the choice. If nothing else, I think it looks better.
I've been trying to look at the Lanier site from the link you gave but all I get is a blank page.

I have checked their web site and found nothing. Of course the new 30 size planes are not shown either. Is there any "spy" photo's of this edge? I have been pondering a DP ultimate or the Lanier edge but now that i've heard about the yellow edge I thinks I'll wait. I have their 60 cap and it is by far the best built best covered and best painted arf that I've owned to date. But, summer is a while to be waiting though.....Dave

The Lanier is a fine plane. It works very well with upto a Brison 2.4 gasser. The AeroWorks 90 is a fine choice too. I have seen several of the H9 Edges over the past year but I don't know of any that are still flying in my area. I like H9 stuff as a whole but that is just my observation.
If it were me... I would go with the AeroWorks 90 with a Saito 100 or the Lanier with a Brison 2.4 gasser.

Hey Planeiac where are you at in indiana? Have you flown your edge? What do you think so far? What motor Prop are you running? I have mine about ready with the saito 180 and I am trying to get an apc 17-6 for it. Thanks!

Check out the Kangke Texas Hurricane, it's not an Edge but its hard to tell them apart. Outstanding quality, all built up, unreal performance with a 2.4 and it even comes with GOOD HARDWARE! except for the wheels.

I think the 80" WS H9 Cap is due to be released very soon. If you want to use a small gas engine this plane was designed for that.
I think most of the current 1.20 glow offerings are a little on the small side for most gas engines.
BTW, I have an H9 Edge with an O.S. 1.60 in it. It's a very nice flying machine!
IMHO, the Lanier 540T with a single place canopy is kind of the ugly duckling in the Edge family. I think the T needs a 2 place canopy to look right.....but that's just my opinion. I like the Extra 300L better than the 300S for the same reason.

capthis,
I am very pleased with the h9 it flies straight goes where you point it. It will stall if air speed is not maintained on landing or you yank it back on highrate( I believe this is a high speed stall). This will happen with all arobatic planes of this size and wing load. Knowing this and flying it to a landing.it is the most fun i have ever had. I get alot of complements on it flies and looks.
I have tried APC 16x8,17x8, scimitar 17x8 and next good day i will try Zinger 18x6.
Oh ya, Lafayette area

Thanks Planeiac,
I plan on flying mine this weekend weather permitting. It is good to hear some good on the plane. I have heard so many bad things I was starting to get dicouraged. I have the H9 cap and I love it. I have flown many extra/ cap/ edges and sukhois before so I am familiar with them. By getting this edge I thought I was getting the ultimate 3-D machine for the size I can afford and haul. We'll see. Where did you get that carbon fiber gear? And how much did it cost. Weight savings? Thanks again.

Capthis I know a guy who has flown both and the Edge wins easy.
If you have owned and flew this type of plane you will just have fun.
Th carbon fiber gear came from Troybuilt Models and was on sale for 35.00 bucks a month ago not sure now.
Im not sure of total weight savings because i dont have a super accurate scale. I read on this site that it will save you 6.5 oz.
I did use a pro digital scale to weigh the plane some time ago it came in at 12.8 but i have about 7 oz of weight on the firewall as a starting point. I will remove it after the weather breaks and i get the feel for it again. I always start conservative as i am not an expert flyer..(yet)lol
have fun you will not be disapointed. It seems like the experienced 3d flyers have said nothing but good about this plane and the fun it was. and the guys that bought it for a second plane well you know.

The H9 Edge. I have one of the originals from last year. Fixed the wing myself and flew all last season with no problems. It's worth the wait.

Planeiac,
I flew it! Yeah It is a definate point it and it will go plane. It was a little windy today but I was able to hover and pull out on 15% nitro fuel. I was running the saito 180 with 16-8 apc prop. It really flew pretty well. I think I'll keep it. I didn't try to much 3-D stuff but the normal snaps, knife edge, point rolls were really good. It even did a pretty good flat spin! Oh did I mention it lands really slow, for an aerobat? I think I like this one better then the lanier, but don't have too much expereince with either yet!

Capthis,
I told you so!
One thing how did you even fly in that wind it was a steady gale here in the north west corner. To fly would have been no fun, however i have flown the edge on breezy days and it cuts the wind really well. I cant wait next good day and mine is going up!!
I have been practicing torq rolls on the sim so it should be a blast. My Saito 1.8 is a tractor I bet it would hover a 15 lb plane.
What is your all up weight?
Did you install the Wheel Pants?
What radio & servo combo?

Planeiac, Pugsley, Thanks for the help. I am running a JR 8103 transmitter with some mixing functions, like full down flaps with full down elevator. The ailerons and rudder have hitec 605's and the elevator has a hs 77bb on each half. They are mounted in the stock location. I run the plane on 6 volts with a Nimh battery. I would love to fly with you guys one of these days. I think columbus has a flyin in the summer time. I might come up for that. It was windy yesterday but it has never stopped me before. Its just not as much fun to try some stuff in wind ie low hovers. I am working on the torque roll too. Sometimes I can get about 2-3 turns before it gets away from me. I still have to think when the belly is toward me. I'll get it some day. I don't know what it weighs but it is quite a bit lighter than my H9 cap. Maybe by as much as a pound! I have another cap on the way though in case one of the big boys goes in I'll have a spare waiting. Happy flying.
