Default Global Kwik-Fly Balancing

Hi Gang,

Just putting the finishing touches on this low-wing trike ARF. Problem is I the CG is so delicate I can't figure out if its tail or nose heavy. If I tip it slightly to the rear, the tail drops; slightly to the nose and the nose drops. I set the balance right at the mid point of the CG range 4 1/4" behind the leading edge.

Never had a plane this difficult to find the CG, or for that matter balance.

Anyone else build this ARF and have a similar problem?

Any Ideas?

a stupid ?
are you trying to do this upside down
on a low wing you have to check the CG inverted.
or you will drive your self nuts

What kind of comment was that, anjr2000? Totally uncalled for.

Keith,

Yes, balance this inverted with the CG a little more forward. Start with this a little nose heavy. These are great flying planes, and a great 2nd "step up from the trainers". I used to love touch and go's with these, as it never bounced on landing. There was something about these that when you went to land, the plane would simply "suck down" to the runway. Never saw a plane land like this one. I've had both, the 40 (no longer produced) and the 60 size.

What'ja got up front for power? I've flown these with a Magnum 75, and a ST 90.

I figured out that I needed to balance this plane inverted back in May. Probably have 70 flights on it. Put a Magnum 91 2C in it and its pretty much unlimited in the vertical. It is the easiest plane to land I have, just set the flaps, line it up, cut the throttle and go get a coke! And although the flap(s) are cool, it really doesn't need them.

My only complaint is the covering, its really junk. Can't handle any heat whatsoever.

I was about to buy one, but the model is heavy at 9 lbs. A 60 sized plane shouldn't weight more than 7 1/2 lbs. Since I was planning on using it at SPA events I would have to use a .60 or .91 four stroke.
