RE: Sig 4* .40
i have one built from a kit 10 years ago and still flying.. i have had two from kits and flown others. they fly good but they really are just a low wing trainer. every 4 star i've flown either kit or arf fly about the same. they really float to slow speed for landings . one thing they will do is if your flying at medium to high speed in level flight, is if you put in left or right rudder the nose pitches down in the direction of the rudder input. every one i have ever flown does this. the plane is also very forgiving for a low wing because of its thick wing . the airfoil is somewhere between a flat bottom or semi symetrical wing so you can have a lot of fun with it. the wing structure has no cap strips, shear webs or leading edge sheeting. the strength in the wing is the covering. this was the way the earlier kits were. but it works. never had a wing failure. i'm not sure if the arf version is like this or not. when they first came out i built my first one from a kit. if i remember the said in the building manuel not to put anything over a .40 engine on it. but i've seen people put hot 45's,46's on them without a problem.

Good luck! I plan on maidening mine on Sunday. I've been out of the hobby for the past 4 years (got married and bought a 69 Mach 1 that has taken most of my time)
Not to hijack the thread but did the control throws in the manual work out well for everyone? Anyone use any expo?

Well, I got to maiden my Four Star today. Pretty good flying plane. My 40 size was getting knocked around pretty good by the light breeze we had today since it is such a light plane which made me wish I got the 60 or 120 but it was a good flyer none the less. The nose does definitely drop when you use the rudder like others have said. I have a Super Tigre GS-45 in it and it is more than enough motor. I flew around at a pretty good clip with 1/4 throttle and a 10-6 prop. It handled like a sport plane and lands like a trainer. Dont give it too much throttle too early, too fast or it will want to nose over. Use a little up elevator to keep the tail down. It doesnt take much to get it in the air. I got plenty of compliments on the plane with lots of people saying it looked like a good flyer and that they want one too. Enjoy!

i flew mine this morning! it was tough to stay oriented correctly with the stock trim scheme but i think some stripes on the bottom of the wing will fix that. i thought it flew really well too and was very easy to land and take off. it is my first low wing and first taildragger, and i was really pleased with the change.
