Any one fly one of these? How do they compare to the GP Ultimate?

I was looking at this also i am just concerned that it seems heavy at 12 pounds according to the manual it weights almost as much as the GP Ultimate 1.60. I am guessing one of them is incorrect.

I am sure size wise the GP is much bigger, begging for a 40 - 50 cc powerplant or 1.60 -2.10 glow.
The Goldberg is fine with a 120- 180 glow

The CG Ultimate is a great flying plane. With a .90 2 cycle they are about as much fun as you can have. They are NOT 12lbs as listed above. They run around 7-8lbs and are 54" span not 60". The CG Pitts Model 12 is 12lbs and 60". I have had 2 of the kit versions of the Ultimate and had a ball with them. If they have a 60" span Ultimate, I've never seen or heard of it. The CG website does not show one either.

This was the one I was referring to.

I don't think it has been out for very long, this summer was the first time I had seen it on tower.

Well that's a new one on me! I guess CG hasn't updated their site in a while or I lwas looking in the wrong spot. If it's anything like the smaller one it should fly well. Can't say what would be the best motor for it though.

Since Great Planes bought out Goldberg and Lanier, their websites are not being updated regularly.

I ordered a Goldberg Ultimate ARF sometime last year (2007) and assumed it was the 54" version. Now I have to go check to find out which one I bought. I wouldn't mind it being the larger version as I have several gas engines that would be perfect for such a sized model. I love Ultimate Biplanes.

If anyone has one I would be interested to know how it does with a small gas. I know Ultimates are not true 3D planes but I would like one in this size to throw around.

I had a Goldberg Ultimate and killed it. Have 1 more framed up and one still in the box. These planes are notorious for flying like a trainer, just too easy. The glide path is shorter, but you aquire the feel for it and its actually nice to have a plane that wants to land as opposed to sailing past you on final.

Are you interested in selling the one in the box?

I've said it for years. In R/C, drag is your friend, not your enemy. This applies mostly for sport flying, 3D flying, floater flying, etc.

Unlike full size aircraft that folks actually use to travel to other places where speed is important, we modelers fly just around ourselves, where going faster only makes you turn sooner, which is tiring. Bipes are compact and can often be transported assembled. This often helps folks with smaller vehicles who do not want to drive minivans or SUV's. Bipes will let you transport gas/spark powered airplanes in minivans and SUVs without having to go the separate trailer route. Bipes fly differently, but not necessarily badly. Some are turkeys, just as some monoplanes are turkeys. The Goldberg Ultimate Biplane, kit or ARF, is a great performer for someone that has graduated from flying a .40 to .60 sized trainer equipped with ailerons. Using a good .60 to .91 glow two-stroke, or .91 to 1.20 glow four-stroke gives the model all the power it will need to do just about every non 3D maneuver in the AMA and IMAC maneuver schedules. Some even fly the CGM Ultimate Bipe with small 20 to 26cc gas/spark engines successfully. Talk about inexpensive flying!

Just picked up one of these 60.5" ARFs. Any information on the set up and flying of this Ultimate would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Do you guys think a Saito 220 would be too much for this plane? I really enjoy these bipes when they are overpowered. I had the .46 size with a Saito 91 and loved it!

You'd at least want the 2.20. I had a Sig Ulti profile with a .51 in it. It flew good but didn't totally satisfy. Then I put a ST .90 in it and it was perfect.

I have a Goldberg Untimate Bipe kit for free. The man who gave it to me had it in the attic for a long time and the mice got to it. The chewed up the plans and some of the balsa pieces, does anyone have the plans I could get from them? I would love to build this one.
