Guys could you post some suggestions on a good 1/4 scale plane for learning 3D w/a 160FX. I'm looking at the Lanier Edge 540, H9 Edge 540, and the Dave Patrick Ultimate. If you have any other suggestions or comments on these I'd be interested in hearing them. I am definately stuck on the 160 as a motor so that's a must but finding a combination to experiment with 3D isn't such a definate thing.

I have the 160 on the H9 cap and love it. From what I hear it would be a good motor on any plane you have listed. I have yet to fly my H9 edge, but I am sure the 160 would fly it very well also. I have flown the lanier edge and I really liked it. A good stable plane, that landed really slow.

I have say the h9 cap, good 3d plane, but not w/ a 1.60 3d will be limited, gp 202 3d performance is better w/ the 1.60 however its not the best 3d plane, lanier edge probably would be good but have not flown this combo, personal favorite has to be the sig cap and 1.60, its by far the most 3d capable plane w/ 1.60 that I have encountered. icebird, just curious what you dp all up weight is? I have considered this combo, how neutral is it in a hover?

It's pretty stable in a hover, not quite as solid as my Laser3D, but then not much is! :-) All up weight is between 11.25 and 11.5 pounds, without fuel. Obviously take off weight would be higher, I have a 16 ounce tank in it. I use an 18X6W APC prop, and find it great.
Someone asked about using a Mejzlik prop. Yes, the hole is too big, but that's easily fixed. I actually made it a little bit bigger, then put in a piece of brass tubing that fit the prop shaft exactly. I would guess it to be something like 3/8 ID, and the OD was just a bit larger than the hole in the prop. Cut a piece 3/8 inch long, and fit it in the prop, then enjoy!
