Default Brian's Nissan Yak 54 Build thread.....

Hi everyone, In case you are wondering about the Nissan part, see here: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8078349/tm.htm]Nissan Yak[/link]

Anyhow, I decided to get the GP 1/4 scale Yak 54 after reading so many good things about it. I plan on making it a Nissan logo plane with graphics I design and try to come up with a nifty scheme for the plane. Here are a few pix of the start of my build. I just put the gear on and used some aluminum hub wheels instead of the foam stock ones. I even lined the cockpit with medium gray cloth to give it some texture. A pilot and center console will follow. Questions and comments are welcome.

Well, it's gonna fly for sure, with one of these in the front: [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPRL4&P=0]OS200FS[/link]
It's going to be a slow process since I have pretty much all winter to work on it. I think I'll pay attention to detail more so than I normally would with the scale looks...[sm=idea.gif]

ive just built one with a zdz40 and i would keep servos forward for rudder and look at engine spacing forward for c of g. It should be a great plane with the OS200 in
I have a os91 fs in a ef extra 58 just love it, keep it lite and i bet the os will be a killer combo.

Will watch this thread.

I made my own console today. I found a picture of a instrument panel on the net, sized it up and printed it out. Just a piece of foam, thin plywood and some epoxy....
A nice helmet head pilot is on the way.

I put the tail feathers on today. Pretty easy process and everything fit very good. I really like the hinge points vice CA hinges. Quicker, easier, cleaner and stronger too. I never used them before but I think I would buy them for my next large scale plane if it doesn't already come with them.

Does anyone have an opinion on the OS200FS in this plane? I've been reading a lot of different views about this engine's performance but no one seems to be running one in a scale model this size. Since I already have one on the way, I would surly like some positive feedback from those who've been using one for a while now....Thanks!

I did a bit more work recently. I found a Yak 54 dash for the front to try and match the console. I also got one graphic in and applied it, NISMO = Nissan Motorsports International. How about the nice rubber edging around the cowling to add some detail...........

Thanks for the pics! Like most ARFs, the plane doesn't look the best on Tower's site, but your pics do the plane deserved justice. The plane just made my (virtual) wish list

Nice job on the graphics. Did you buy the engine yet?

Yes I did and I actually have it too but there's a catch........My wife say's it's a Christmas present so I can't play with it until DEC. 25th. Oh well, It's ok since the winter months are here so I won't be flying it anyhow. Thank you for the comments. More pix to come. B-

Haha, I would be drooling all over that thing on Xmas. I stuck an OS engine on my Xmas wish list; hopefully my family loves me that much! Fortunately it wasn't a four stroke, so I'd still be able to pay them some attention. I hope you got your wife something nice!
