not sure how the struts are going to last. don't like all the clevis used there. changed my axles out... too soft of metal and pulled the nut through the thread quite easily.
i had to really cut up my cowl to get my Saito in there.
not too concerned though as this is an ARF in my eyes.... a daily driver.

i had some custom ones kicking around from a Harvard and they just so happen to fit!... wheels too. just a bit bigger and the tailwheel too. we have a very rough field to fly from so the pants are staying off for the time being.
not sure what the 1.20 kit is like, i just have the .90 size one.

Question to mimoore67
How difficult to remove the side windows and windshield?
I did the same with my Phoenix Decathlon and damaged them during that process because the side windows were permanently glued to the fuselage. However, I had had an extra windows/windshield I bought at Tower Hobby.
For this SeaGull 120 Decathlon I have not seen windows anywhere.

I didn't remove the side windows, I just masked them off with tape! The metal tubing in the front was a little difficult, but I took my time and it came out! I repositioned the tubing to be in more scale location at the bottom mounting points to give it the proper angle.
I also built a false floor!
The front windshield is only held on with red tape and I removed that and repainted it with a close matching plastic rc car paint. I will have to use some clear fuel proof on the red that I painted on the windshield.

Hi guys,
Just order a 120 size Decathlon from my local hobby store, but not got it yet. Reading the online manual, I learned that pushrods all around are 2mm in diameter. Really strange (or mistake in manual). This size of the aircraft needs at list 4-40 pushrods. How did you guys modify that on your 120s? Left them how they are, or moved servos at the tail, or squeezed thicker wires into the plane's pushrod tubes?

I got one coming and was wondering what you think of my choice of engine, DLE30 or the RCG26. Witch would fit the best?

I think the DLE30 is to much power, also needs 160mm room, the plane give you 155mm no big deal.
I got a CRRC26 in mine ... I wish I did a better job in cutting out the Cowl...O well.....
I'm waiting for the DLE20 has more power than the ****26 class and only weights in at 30 oz

Ya the Dle 20 what a good idea! Are they available yet? The way I see it the RCG26 is an easy fit. What size prop are you using?

Hi,
What is about CG? I read a review at RC Universe. It says - "I was surprised to see that even with the weight of the G-20 and all of its components up front that the battery needed to go under the tank to get the CG on the spar."
That means if we gonna with Saito/YS/OS the CG will be far away back from the right location. Guys, how is your CG with 120-150 nitro?

RE: New Decathlons From Seagull 91 and 120 Size!
Just finishing wrapping up a .75 size Decathlon. Like to post a few thoughts regarding this bird.
The good:
-Nice hardware package. Although the instructions didn’t exactly match the bags of items, it was easy to figure out what went were, and all items were of reasonable quality.
-Fit and finish of the plane is good.
-Pre-drilled/blind nuts for the motor mounts is a nice thing.
-Pre-installed shield too.
The not so good:
-The plane comes with what appears to be an 8oz tank………..installation of a 12 oz required slight cutting.
-Either the predrilled motor mount holes are in the wrong location, or the paint lines on the cowl are crooked. I opted for the paint lines being crooked, and therefore they are at an angle to the lines on the plane when the cowl is installed.
-The wing strut attachment to the fuselage is with a nut and bolt, using through holes in both the strut and the bracket on the fuselage. Both holes are clearance holes, so a snug fit of the strut to the fuselage is difficult at best. Also, drop a M3 nut in the grass when installing at the field, and your day of flying might be over.
Saito .91 installed, with 90degree knuckle, and optional header pipe. Nice clean installation. Had to move the 1100Mah battery pack to the rear of the servo tray, and add 1oz of weight to the tail. Still the auw is under 8 lbs.
Hope to maiden this coming week.
Doug

looks like a good install of the engine! i have the same size but didn't have that knuckle to get the pipe underneath. i like it.
she is a good flyer, no question. just pick your days though, it doesn't do well in the winds. i upped my tire size a bit too and relaxed the gear on mine a bit to make it a little more scale like.
have fun with it!

RE: New Decathlons From Seagull 91 and 120 Size!
I would recommend swaping out the stock 2mm pushrods on the 120 with 4/40, the guide tubes accept the larger rods. I put a RCGF 20cc in mine (120) and it flies in a "scale" manner, no unlimited vertical with this engine! The new DLE 20 would be nice with more power and 8.5 oz lighter!!!

SkyPilot-
Have you had actual issues with the pushrods that came with the kit (bending, etc) or just thinking it'd be better with heavier hardware? I have mine done as well and I managed to get in on the first order of DLE 20s from Valley View. From what I have heard, they are in the states and I should get mine soon. I think this engine/plane combo will be pretty good...

RE: New Decathlons From Seagull 91 and 120 Size!
Hey Guys,
Looking for a new project and the Seagull Decathlons have caught my eye. I'm looking for a small gasser and was wondering if the RCGF 20 (or a G-20) would be too much for the smaller decathlon or if i should move up to the bigger 120 size. Any opinions???
Thanks
Mike

RE: New Decathlons From Seagull 91 and 120 Size!
I have the 1.20 size. I looked at the size of the surfaces to be moved and went on with the stock pushrods. It has small ailerons and small tail surfaces. There seems to be plenty of leverage with the recommended horn lengths. I am using a CRRC26V2 and may have to put the servos in the tail anyway. These Decathlons don't need much throw. I had a .40 size, and it had about 1/2 in. throw on the elevators, and didn't use all that. Too much elevator will snap a Decathlon in a heartbeat. One of those beginner takeoffs, where they give it full throttle and yank the elevator back to climb out at 45-50degrees to miss the weeds, will have a Decathlon inverted about 6ft. off the ground before you can react. Better to let it build some speed on the ground or ease in the elevator and let it fly level a bit then climb out.
