well, I've had to repair several planes where I had to remove the ca hinge or cut off a rudder and replace it with a new one, etc...I just use a drimmel tool with the cutting wheel and carefully cut it out, then put a new hinge in the same area.

BAD idea.

Once thin CA has been added to an area, it will not stick well again. Plus, by the time you dig out the first hinge, the slot will more than likely be too big.

Your best options are:

1) Cut the hinges flush and put new ones about 1/4" away from where the old one was

or

2) Drill a hole in the center of the hinge and use Robart Hinge Points.

I also use old dental picks to dig the old hinges out. My regular practice is to just cut the old hinge smooth to the surface and cut a new hinge slot above/below or to either side the old hinge. This is usually the easiest and safest way to do it. Also makes for a lot less damage to the balsa. Just my 2 cents

Make sure you buy the little drill guide for them. It's only a few bucks and it's a "Must Have" item to get them aligned properly.

Simmo - the dental picks are the same metal ones as your dentist uses to clean teeth, sometime you can ask your dentist for their old ones. I've gotten plenty used ones from my dentist and other odd ball places. They are not toothpicks. As for Robert hinges (I don't use they very often) many modelers swear by them. Just remember to put a little Vaseline (or petro. jelly) in the hinge part itself to keep any glue out when you install it.

CA debonder and patience, then add these hinges in the same slot with Pacer hinge or epoxy glue.
I have had sucess with this and it works without gouging the wood all to heck.

let it sit for awhile, gently work the surface loose or grab the hinges with pliers.Just take it easy or a bunch of wood will come with it.Also I'd let the surfaces sit overnight and dry out before reinstalling hinges.

You can make a drill guide.

Drill a hole in a block of hard wood.

Align the block so the hole is in the center of the TE (Cover the TE with waxed paper first)

Lay a piece of balsa on top of the wing/Stab and butt it against the block and CA it in place

Do the same on the bottom
