vq dago red retrats
#2

Your going to need a retract servo, Also on of the problems encountered with the VQ Dego (I have one) is the spacers they give (if you got the VQ retracts with the kit) The 2 wood spacers are too thin to allow the gear to lock in the up position, All you have to do and cut some 1/4 thick spacers and they will lock up and down, Took me a little while to figure out why they wouldn't lock but I took out the 2 small wood blocks they gave and cut some new ones and they work perfectly now. As for the servo, A retract servo will go from one side to the next side with no centering. It's like a on off switch. It's either all the way to one side and goes all the way to the other when you hit the switch. Hitec makes a pretty good one for cheap money and they are a lower profile. A standard would not fit well in the Dego either. Here is a link to the servo for $29 and a Futaba for a little more, Both good servos.

What I use on the retracts are those E/Z Connectors, leave the screw loose and let the servo go to the full extension, then snug up the screw and see how it is in the other direction. Just make sure they are locked in the down direction, If they are only semi locked in the up position it won't do any damage but semi locked in the down position could lead to them folding when landing.
