I was wondering how this 330 L Extra airplane is for flying & how well is it built? It is for a 50cc gas engine & the span is 81 inches. Thanks Capt,n

Someone just posted this plane on our bulliten board at our club as the worst knock off. There are a couple of the GP extra's at our club, one with DA50 the other DL55 both are very nice planes. I'm not sure who posted the pic with the not so nice warning but it's funny this plane just popped up.

Anyone who wants to can check out the CMP Edge 540T pictures I have up on my Gallery, that shows how these planes are built.
The pictures are close ups of things that you usually do not see, such as the insides of the wings, etc.
Considering the price, they are a pretty good buy.

I recently bought the Nitro Models Extra 330L 63" .90 size plane. I love mine, the build quality is quite good for the price I paid ($124.95). I converted mine to electric with a Power 60 E-flite motor. The plane looks and flies excellent! I had one of the more experienced members of my club fly mine last Saturday, and he LOVED it.

The only things I have found to be of low quality were the elevator rod design, allows WAY too much flex. I needed to add a brace in the middle of the fuse to eliminate as much side-to-side movement as possible. The instructions are crap, you need to have some sort of build experience to make it through the assembly. The landing gear is too short, doesn't allow larger sized props, the tires are only 2 1/4", but still hit the inside of the wheel pants. I installed 3" wheels, and left the wheel pants off, now I can run a 15" prop. The film used for covering is VERY lightweight. If you need to iron out wrinkles, use a very low setting on the iron, or the film melts.

I'm ok with these little things, especially for the price.

OK ....I am ready to learn.....just what is a knock off? Does this mean it is not scale? Or does it mean worst quality? I guess you are not any more imformed than myself, unless you see one fly and talked to the guy who owned it. I do not care if its scale...I want a fairly good built plane that does fly good. I guess a knock off is not needed???? Capt,n P.S. The price seems good.

We had one of these NPExtras at an event auction over the weekend. I compared it to my GPExtra. The covering schemes might be very similar but they definitely are not the same airplane. I'm not sure if the NP supplier copied the GPplane or if both of them are based on some full scale color scheme that's out there.
I'm not just saying it because I own one but I think the GP is nicer with a much better looking cowl. The only area where the GPreally lacks is it doesn't have a bolt-on tail.
The NPairplane is not bad considering the low price. You may sacrifice some things like hardware quality, good instructions and/or support though. If you are OK with that then it may not be a bad deal at all.
Here's a picture of my GPExtra. It flys great and the RCGF-50 (which looks suspiciously like it was copied from a DA-50) runs very good.

If you are a member of Towers super Saver club you can usually get a $60 off coupon.
Main thing going for the GP is real Monokote covering which holds up well and you can get color matching covering for patches, excellent useable hardware, great parts fit and excellent support from the manufacturer.
You may give up some of that with the NP airplane but you pay less money. It all depends on how much you want to put into the plane. Either can be very good, just depends on what's most important to you.

I am a member of the super savings club Tower has. It is supposed to be free shipping also. I bet on this airplane it will not be free shipping. I shall call and see. Capt,n

Yes and no on the free shipping. Yes, the standard shipping cost will be free but you have to pay a $65 surcharge for the oversized package.
These large planes come in very large, usually heavy boxes. Sometimes they arrive in multiple boxes. Once you hit the "oversize" point with UPS or Fed-ex they get very expensive to ship.
The $65 actually isn't bad. Imeasured and weighed the box and got a qote to ship cross country just to see what it would be. It was well over $100.
What is NP getting ot ship their plane?

When I ordered mine from NP, it came in a box about 15" wide, 60" long, and about 12" deep. UPS ground shipping was $22.00, and it arrived in about 3-4 days. Not bad.
