I am aware of the yellowing problem. I cant make up my mind whether I should be OK with the yellowing or should look at other airplanes. I know that the yellowing is not the only problem with the Funtana, there are other issues as well

I got a little (42 inch) electric AJSlick for that! It has the big advantage of being cheap and little so it fits in the back seat with the wings attached. And if/when I crunch it, a new one is not bad at $140.

Learning to fly 3D with something I could replace on the cheap would be way too smart (for me) anyway. That's just not right.

I tend to agree with you, and the multiple batteries and 5 minute flights are a drawback, but I can hear the prop noise change when I tailslide down from a hover. That is cool to hear and lets you know when you are sinking slowly. There is no way I am going to hear that on a DLE-20 or -30 with the stock mufflers.

Other than the landing gear requiring a good landing to last without some reinforcing and the yellowing of the decal overlay, mine has been a blast. I have to say, 3d Hobby shops and Extreme Flight, in addition to Aeroworks are also great planes, but alot more money. When you look at the price, it is hard to resist. I will likely recover the yellowing sections eventually. Waiting for bad weather to stop flying and cover; doesn't seam likely soon in south Florida?!
One thing about the DLE 20, it is significantly lighter than the 30 cc's and this plane is not set up for pull pull, so the rudder servo may have to be relocated from the rear, which can be a challenge.

ahicks: How true. However, my garage doors face the West and generally the airplanes are sitting on a workbench in the middle of the garage with the doors open. Afternoon sun gets right on the main wings every afternoon that I can't fly. Still not as bad as being at the field with direct sunlight on the wings. Another thing that I thinks helps is that I only use windshield washer fluid to clean my airplanes. No windex or other type of powerful cleaners. I uploaded three pictures about an hour ago. Still not showing up.

Mine turned yellow at the decal overlays, as some others have mentioned. Sounds like some haven't? My understand from this blog is that someone who raised the issue with Horizon or Hangar 9 was given a money credit. Love the plane either way, but the yellowing, to me was very noticeable and I can understand why some may hesitate to purchase, without the issue being addressed by the manufacturer, preferably on this blog or a release on their web site. Just my 2 cents.
I have used glass cleaner on all of my models over the last 6 years and this is the first to have an issue with yellowing. Don't think any others used this decal overlay. I will recover, at some point. Maybe when it becomes visible in the air !?!?

JohnB :: Thank you for the info. I might give it a shot with a DLE 30. I did have a FuntanaX with a Saito 125 and it flew well. I have since coverted over to gas and will NEVER go back to glow. Gas is just too clean and cheap to fly. Plus my DLE runs everytime with a throw of the prop. I love it

Yesterday I finally took a look at the incidence on my funtana. One wing actually had .25* negative incidence and the other was 0*. So I added the wing adjusters and set the wing incidence for both wings at .5* positive incidence. I was able to fly it today and it made a great improvement in how the plane flew. Up until today the plane felt on the verge of being unstable. Today it was rock solid. My RCG 26 engine finally started giving me decent vertical. I have just under a gallon of gas through it and it is gaining power. Overall I am liking this plane much better now.

I flew the airplane about a dozen flights adjusting the control throws and expo to my
liking. I also moved the CG to the front of the CG range from middle of the recommended range.
I found the airplane to be a chore to fly and just not fun at all. The control throws were
far to sensitive for my taste. The airplane had a noticeable pull to the gear in the down
lines and up lines and the KE was vicious to the gear. Landings were shall we say
un-nerving having to hold a good bit of down elevator.
Totally unacceptable for precision sport flying IMHO.
I decided to move the CG forward and recheck, things got better but still not fun.
I'd had enough of this airplane and decided to try a few things I thought would help. I
refuse to fly an airplane that doesn't behave and do what I tell it to within reason.
I've flown a lot of sport airplanes over the last 35 years and none of them fly really
well, some have really nasty habits and some come pretty close to being very fun.
Here's what I changed,
1. I blocked the airplane up and stuck my measuring devices on it and ensured where I
started at and it was 0-0-0 measured from the canopy rail.
2. I added wing adjusters to the main wing pins and slotted the rear pins. I adjusted both
wings to .5 positive.
3. I added 1 degree down thrust to the motor.
4. Moved the CG to about 1/4'' in front of the recommended CG range.
I then went today and flew the airplane in dead calm winds.
I can report that these changes have made a world of difference in this airplane.
The pull to the gear is gone in the vertical up and down lines, the KE push to the gear is
far less than it was, on the order of 2/3 less. The landings are now more normal with the
airplane almost landing itself in a slight nose up attitude, no more having to push down
elevator to set it up. The entire airplane now feels more locked in in all flight axis than
it was, before it was always hunting in pitch. The elevator is softer around neutral than
it was which is nice.
Over all I believe these changes have made this a far better sport plane than it was
before.
If your a sport flier with this airplane you might want to try these mods.
If you're a 3D hovering type I doubt you'll like these changes, I really don't know as that
isn't my style of flying.
I'm now pleased with the Tana and shall continue to refine it as time progresses, I just
can't seem to leave anything alone for long.

Glad you tried it, this simple mod makes this a great airplane out of a dog. I think I ended up nearly a inch in front of the CG range they recommended. I had several others in my Club fly it before and after, they all agreed it was a hand full as built, much nicer after the Mods.

Guess that did not work either. Or, I just do not understand how it is done any more. I have uploaded pictures in the past with great success, but since the original company sold to another party and the system was down for a while, I have not been able to upload any pictures at all.
