BALLISTICK??

Anyone remember the YS-91 powered Ballistick of the late '90s? I completely redesigned this kit about 8 years ago and never got around to selling them. I lightened it and and made it a lot easier to assemble so that it could be built in a weekend. Power would be anything from a plain bearing 40 to most 4-stroke 60-80s. Is there any interest now?

I am not paul, but I have one of his Ballastics. they are a modern "ugly stick" built rugged, but not heavy. mine has foam wing, symetrical and no dihedral (s) flies like it is on rails. absolute true tracking. actually, among the best and truest tracking planes i have flown. I sent Paul several pix of mine. perhaps he will post one.

Hi Paul, would you mind telling us a description of the plane? Is its a fun-flyer, a stick, or what? I could be interested once I know what it is.
Thanks,
John

Wing span is 54", weight is about 4-5lbs with a two stroke and about 6-7lbs with a bigger four stroke. If you have basic building skills, access to a foam cutter, or know of one, you should be able to build it easily in a weekend.
Photos soon.

Paul,
Were you residing in AZ when the Ballistick was originally kitted? I seem to recall it being of local design and manufacture. I did not own one myself but I flew a bunch of 'em that were built by other guys and it is a great bang around sport/fun fly airplane. I remember it being very popular around the Valley for a number of years. I would think it could still be a popular seller if a quality kit were offered. Good luck with it!

Gosh, how to describe it... think of a Q-500 mating with an Ultrastick. Like aa2dd said, it flies like it is on rails yet you can throw it around the skies like a funpfly. From floating by at a walk to climbing OOS from your hands. Mine was clocked on radar at 140mph with a YS 91.

I am looking to just sell the laser cut parts and plans to finish the plane. Most people already have their favorite hardware laying around.
Here are some photos of one of our earlier models with a wild covering scheme.

The latest incarnation would not be very suitable for the power of the YS. It would be best with something like a Webra 50 or something like that. I flew mine with a Raptor 46 (made in a small batch for me by GMS) and it would go vertical OOS with the stock muffler and was a rocket with a tuned pipe!

Paul, you blew my mind!! looking at the thread, and when I saw pix of my Ballastic, I freaked out!!! It is showing its age a bit. The reds are faded out from being in my van and the sun here in Fl burning it! BUT it still flies like day one! She has dozens and dozens of flights on her. Does having pix of my bird posted on RCU make me famous?

Yep. Gerald Meux (remember Excalibur fuel?) and I were building them and selling them as nearly ready to fly. We sold them way too cheap for tha amount of work that went into them. I may see if there is someone in the USA that will cut cores for a reasonable price.

I have not seen him for probaby 10 years but Gerald and I were good friends way back when. I used to work with the gentleman who purchased Excalibur Fuels from Gerald and, so far as I know, he is still mixing fuel. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
