Default Skyshark Edge 540 Maiden

Finally got to maiden my Skyshark Edge 540 powered by an Evolution 1.00NX. Plane flew very well and only required 2 clicks left on ailerons and 1 click down on elevator to fly level. So far, all five flights resulted in very smooth landings, but as others have experienced, the landing gear is very soft and bent out each time. I decided to fix it and put strut bracing on the gear legs just like you'd find on a real Cub or other fixed gear aircraft. Works very well and doesn't bend at all.

Looks real sweet with the three blade prop. Its heck when they put that weak gear on an otherwise nice arf.

I have flown and built 2 of these localy. Built many ARFs. I still say this one came out right on the numbers better than any other ARF in my experience. And have built several from some of the most common brands. The landing gear is a problem. I put both of them together but that was too stiff. In the end I used half cup 5/32" wire holders and added a 5/32" spring wire to the heavier one. Worked ok. But I think it was a little too stiff. Perhaps the weaker gear would have worked better for that modification. The plane flies great. Straight and true. Too bad it isn't available in this country any more.
I also have 2 in the boxes yet!!!!!

EagleFlyer,

Your landing gear mod is probably the best solution I've seen using the stock gear. After I did my modification I flew it a few more times and it works great. Last flight I came in and landed and the left wheel had spun enough to tighten up the nut on the axle so that it locked up the wheel. The plane did a quick stop and bent that gear straight back. So I just ordered a new carbon fiber gear from Graph Tech RC. Wife said it arrived in the mail today so I'll get it installed so I can fly again this weekend.
