Default Hangar 9 Edge 540 problems?

Did Hangar 9 fix the wing problems with the Edge 540? How is the quality of this kit? How does it compare to the GP 1/4 G202. I currently fly my G202 w/ OS 1.60. I might replace my G202 with the Edge 540 and get a Saito 1.80 or use my OS 1.60. what do you guys think? Thanks

Jimmy

It's already fixed, don't worry about such problem. It's a cool wild 3-D....You'll love it as I do mine.

Default Great Plane

A friend of mine has one. It flies great with the Saito 180.

Do yourself a favor and check the ca hinges. My friend lost it due to the hinges breaking. Horizon replaced it, since the problem was the hinge material breaking. Suggest you change them.

good luck,
Edgar

Just totaled my 540 on approach because the aileron provided ca hinges snapped in two. This was with a brand new wing, the wing was fine but the hinges are far too flimsy for this plane, and I'll never use this type of hinge again. The wing was equipped with anti-flutter blocking between the aileron and the wing. Also, the aileron broke in two when it seperated from the wing. These hinges did not pull out but broke. Watch out!

Sorry to hear about your crash. If I get one I will probably replace them. Thanks

Reply to PTGARCIA: It's a thin strip of clear or the same colored covering of the wing/aileron space seperation (between the wing and aileron or the stab and elevator or the fin and rudder to prevent air traveling through and causing flutter. It's generally put on the underside for neatness.

My hanger 9 Edge 540s hinges so far are no problem. Its critical on how you install them and how much ca you use. IF you put to little or too much it can break and fail or if you put it only on one side too.

Default Hangar 9 Edge 540 problems?

Hi Guys,

Here is a thread I started a while ago regarding bad wings:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...0&pagenumber=1

I submitted another post based on the CA hinges, here is my simple theory.

CA hinges some people swear its the best, some say they have lost their airplanes using it. Some say its the amount of glue, this, that, the other.

Cost of h9 Edge 540 $ 340.00
Cost of engine approx. $ 3-400.00 Mine a ZDZ 50 $ 600 with muff
Cost of RX and servos $ 3-350.00
Time to build $$$$$$$
Total $ 1090.00

COST OF GOOD QUALITY PINNED HINGES GIVING YOU PEACE OF MIND AND ASSURANCE THAT YOUR HINGES WILL NOT FAIL:
NO MORE THAN $ 20.00

Do the math guys..

I have just completed building it and will be flying it hopefully next week. The ZDZ 50 is swinging a 22X10 prop @ 6200 RPM The pic below was taken at the Aviation Museum in Ottawa Canada, where on Canada Day we have an air show of various aircrafts. We also do demonistration RC flying for the visitors and the museum is open to the public free of charge on this day.
