Default Rare Bear

Thought I'ld give an update on the Thunder Tiger Rare Bear.

Converted to electric - E-Flite outrunner 110 with Castle Ice 100 AMP ESC and 2 - 4 cell 5000 mah 25c Lipos in series. AUW finished at 13lbs 7 ozs. Lado retracks with robart oleo struts. Power is over the top. take off is short & quick and then will climb absolutly straight up.

The plane has about 20 flights on it now and it flies like any other sport plane - the weight just isn't an issue. My landings are not the best - yet - still working on them. I think I'm trying too hard not to crash it instead of concentrating on just landing.

Since these pictures I hae changed the wheels to Sullivan aluminum (I never can spell that word) hubs on 3 1/2 inch tires.

Glynn, that is an absolutly beautiful airplane. Ive been wanting one of those for about a year and havent seen where to buy one. How much do they run and where can I get one? You said you converted it to electric, was it glow or gas powered or did you change it over during build? What size glow does it recommend? Nice job.

Great questions, sky.

Hopefully Glynn will fill us in soon.

Good Morning,

I bought my kit (ARF) from ACE Hobbies but it's available thru other sources. Ace is now listing it at $472.00 but I only paid $399.00 for mine. I know the price is negociable because I called Thunder Tiger to ask why there was so many different prices at different sites and they matched the cheapest price, but you'll have to call and ask.

The kit is set up for retracts but none are included with the kit (I used LADO electric - easy -easy - easy).

The 3 blade spinner is included in the kit (very nice piece) I painted thr prop. (APC 15 x 13.75 - 9250 RPM)

A .90 - 2 stroke or 1.20 - 4 stroke is recommended but as mentioned earlier I used E-Flite outrunner 110.

I made the conversion during the original build and it was quite an undertaking. The kit itself is way more work than any other ARF I've built.

In a day or two I'll remove the prop & cowl and take some pictures to show the motor, ESC, Flite pack and battery installation.

Glynn

I love the looks of the plane, but I remember reading a not so favorable review of the plane in a mag a couple years ago.

I wonder how well these will sell with Rare Bear getting a new paint job this year. The new scheme looks great.

Yes, there were some quality / strength issues with the early kits. The tail has been completly redesigned with larger carbon rods that also go deeper into the stab.

The landing gear blocks are also beefed up and I've had no problems.

I've included the photos I promised.

Glynn , you did a great job , I did see the original model hanging in Hobbywarehouse in Richfield Minn , it was a beuty .
My issue is the cost , now you can get the ESM version of the Bearcat for $299 , military scheme but very nice and much less money .
The esm version is much bigger as well , I think its 74" span , its being sold by troybuild models and or VQ
