My son came home from a garage sale, this last weekend, with a large dirty fibreglass fus and foam wing model. Initially I thought I would take it straight to the local dump but giving it more attention I decided that it was relatively easy to repair. The major damage was a badly smashed cowl with only one half salvagable. I have two problems in that I am not quite sure what model it is, although I think it might be an Extra 260 as it has/had a large eliptical air intake. The span is approximately 2M. The other problem is in regard to the engine mount. The main bulkhead is too far aft to take a normal mount and I notice that some ARF models of this type have some sort of box extension on which the mounting studs for the gas engine are bolted. Anybody got drawings or close up photos of this type of mount?

Well here are some photos of the model, which look pretty junky but apart from the beat up cowl, it is actually not too badly damaged, although the previous owner started stripping the wing covering off. I think I shall have a go at restoring it, especially as I had intended to build my first gas engine model, since early Super Cyke days. It was going to be a 1/3 scale Evans Volksplane but restoring this (what ever it is) should work out quicker and cheaper. So guys, any help positively identifying it would be helpful. Also any tips on what size engine would be useful. Thanks for the photos of similar model engine mounts, I can't see any evidence of built in down and side thrust in the mount, any opinions.

It is a Laser 200 I think yours might have been the Laneir ARF but get us some acurate measurements of the Wing Span and overal length with cowl. I will look about and see if I can find you a helpfull link.

Deffinately worth your time to restore. If it is a Lanier then is is no longer available.

I think you could be right, thanks. Lanier is a blast from the past, as I seem to remember them to be one of the first ARF kit manufacturers. I worked for Lockheed in Georgia on the C5A project back in late '60's / '70's and seem to remember the company being in Georgia. I believe Goldberg bought them out some while ago. Anyway, the dimensions of this version are as follows:- Wingspan 82", Root Chord 17", Tip Chord 8.5", Aileron Length 25" with a mass balance at the tip and Fuselage Length from base of Fin to Front of Cowl 58.5". If you can check it out for me, I would be most grateful, as would any other details or info that you might have.

Well the Lanier 33% has a 96 in WS and the 1/4 scale from them is 72 in. Doing some math yours at 82 in comes out to 28.472222% scale. Kind of an odd scale. Probably built such that folks could join the 80 inch club even though IMAA only requires 80 inches or at least 1/4 scale as their minimum.

I am now at a loss as to what you may have. I sudjest you tacke some detailed pictures of the plane and as good as possible pictures of the interior construction noting use of foam core and see if anyone else may recognize it's manufacturer. It is deffinately a Laser 200 though.
