How you guys balancing it? Are you lifting under the wings at the point they show in manual? Anyone did it at the wingtips? I've always balanced a low-wing plane upside down. Just want some first hand knowledge from someone whos flown it.

Ok All,
Do you think the firewall needs beefing up? looks a little weak..

Did your bird come with Oleo struts?

I read the LC mounting block need beefing up, has any one done this..

She isnt going to fly with out at least an hour on the engine...Hopfully the exhaust ring will be done this long week end..

havent told the wife yet!!! going to be a bit hard to hide this one....

yes, the struts shoud be included in the set for sure.

Some have beefed up the firewall, I have not.....only added glue around all the joints.

My landing gear blocks where all fine, and since my wings where all torn up I coud see this better.
The guys with the small version of this plane seem to complain alot about the gear blocks.......but it is also made differently.

The struts looked like they were a new type.
Ill prob just fill the firewall with glue.
Got no reaction with the missus after I told her about the new bird.....

Just unpacked the bird..Did a mock set up..Nice..[X(]

If the missus keeps whinging about my new toy, the box for the bird is a good size to bury her in!!

The engine was ready to have a long bench run today.
Tried to start her, Refused to fire..Then the OB glow went up in smoke..1st time Ive used it..Was working Ok on the bench testing..

Didnt have to cut the wires of the PCB as there were melted off..Shorted the wires to get the glow plugs working But still failed to fire..
She just kept on burning the wires..I suspect I have a shorted glow or plug lead...My lead are made out off wheel collars with some silicon tubing to insulate from the plug body...
The Exhaust ring that I was making out of copper was going to be too heavy, so I bought a Keleo ring..

Found the cause of the OB glow driver melting...Over 40A being pulled from the battery..Removed the glow leads and still had a short.
I had a cable tie on one of the glow leads to keep it away from the exhaust outlet, didnt realise the back engine mount had sharp edges on it...Yep Murphy struck.. it cut through the insulation....
By good battery..8xAA 2.25 Nhmi...

Oh well next week for the run..

Ok got the engine running yesterday..
A quick vid.
Did 5 tanks on her today...On 1 run I over fueled the tank and the exaust ring filled up with fuel. I tryed to do a hand start she started but had a weid sound like a hissing sound...She was running backwards!! never thought a 4 stroke could do that..Must have been the fuel in the ring..The only way I could shut it down was to uplug the glow plugs. Tryed again and she was fine..
I can get her to idle at 1300RPM and will over rev to 8400RPM then back off to 7200RPM

She sound so sweet... The other modelers fell in love with the sound....

The engine is just about ready. She now runs much smoother with out the glow system at 1/4 throtle. Finnished off the 8th liter of fuel today.. Going to order the Microsense OB glow...

Going to remove the back plate and check out the master and link rods for damage..Oh and fix the mongrel oil leak from a pushrod tube..

He is the vid on todays last run..With a post crash report at the front.

Bummer about the wife... I loved your commentary about the glow plug leads... too funny. I'm guilty of same 'offense'!

I am sorry that you have to deal with her hatred of this great hobby. I am very fortunate that my wife supports my enthusiasm for flying planes and does not protest when I go flying or buy new stuff. Hope yours comes around.

Exactly! and ask her how much she thinks a mistress costs these days... she'll be glad you spend your money on the hobby instead

Hi Sonnich, I have recently bought the BH 50cc Gilmore and a SC 5 cyl' radial, (same as your ASP of course), I'm just starting to look at mounting the engine so a couple of questions for you if you don't mind.
1. did you place the prop driver at the 172mm recommended distance, if so I guess you used wood spacers as the engine mount to prop driver is 12mm less?
2. if not what did you do?
Thanks, Keith.

Not sure what he used but some guys use hard wood dowels like oak. You can get them at home depot and drill them out. You can also find aluminum tubing and insert the wood dowels in them. Use fender washers on both sides of the firewall.

Hi Kieth.

I just bolted it to the firewall as it is, and moved the cowl back.
I then glued on some new wood blocks to the rear side of the existing cowl blocks, so I could use the pre drilled holes.
