ORIGINAL: ChuckW You also have to consider that these ARF's are not really mass-market products. They are not being made in huge numbers to supply every Wal-Mart and Home Depot store like a lot of inexpensive consumer products. I think I see an unfortunate trend... :D |

I kind of wonder that with the foamies and lower cost electronics if we will start seeing some more RC stuff back in the mass-market stores? You have the Airhogs stuff and a few little helis now but I could see more small parkflyer RTF foamiessitting on a Wal-Mart or Target shelf. Remember when most department stores and toy stores had the old Cox stuff?

Heh, I've seen plenty of AirHog and other "toy" class foamies in Target and Wal-Mart in this area.
The Toy sellers are repleat with flying things... micro helis, planes, etc. From my perspective there has been a very pronounced uptick in that type of thing here. The LHS's also seem to only have Park Flyer foamies too. |

Whatever happened to building a model you were proud of? I'm kind of annoyed with the RC toys these days. Sure, they get people interested in RC, but only to the extent of radio control models being seen as toys. If they were toys, they would have been recalled long ago for being dangerous.

The building part of the hobby has definitely gotten smaller, no doubt about that. In some ways that is very sad. I look at it like things like cars, furniture and the like though. Most people are content to just go buy the stuff but there will always be those talented individuals out there building their own and doing it much better and "cooler" than than most manufacturers.

ORIGINAL: NM2K I refuse to ''get used to'' Hobbico/Tower's ever higher, completely unjustifiable prices. I understand keeping up with inflation, but in case no one has noticed, a lot of the reason for a major decrease in retail sales is the fact that most credit card companies keep lowering the card's credit limit as the consumer pays down their balance. This means that there is no way to buy the product and the budget of the consumer is inflexible. If it can't go on the card, they can't buy it. So the idiots selling our toys raise the prices above inflation anyway and then wonder why they have no sales. It takes an MBA to think in such a manner. Ed Cregger Ed i totally agree.... I don't know why someone must get used to such prices... I know GP ARFSs DO come with great quality and clever design, but selling so high ? Why ? Actually "getting used to" is an option since no one is forced to pay the prices.
What confuses me about complaints is almost all modelers agree the cost to build any of these planes (from scratch or kit) is greater than the ARF amount. Basically it comes down to a choice of where one spends their money and time. Either way it will cost. |
