I'm planning on doing what Skipb mentioned,with the silver elastic cord. I have them on my Travel Air 2000, 6 sets of wires (cords) attached to very small opened eye screws. Takes less than 2 minutes to install them. Got mine at Michaels or Hobby Lobby ( not HobbyLobby rc). ACF

Let me ask you guys this question as it seems that most have been flying a while. I am still on 72 for my radio and am not going to switch over for another year. I just really don't like the wire that trails out. Can you leave those in the fuse or do they need to be extended to full length?

Always extended to full length. Curled back inside the fuselage is just like cutting it. The aerial is a tuned length for the radio frequency, any change and the range will reduce.

Go to a craft store, ask for silver elastic cord, and buy at least three packages of it. As for how to install and use it download from Tower's site the instruction manual for the Super Stearman. IT is very helpful.

Yes it should be full length, but you can put it inside a pushrod tube and run that inside the fuselage, you may have to make a couple of cross braces to support it on the formers. I do it on all my scale birds.

Thw GP Waco has an antenna tube built right inside it. MOST, if not all of the antenna will fit in the tube (it's a pretty long plane). If any is left, you can just loop it around the readio compartment. Will you lose range? yes, but it is not nearly as much as some people think.

I have had two separate incidences where antenna wires were not installed properly. One where the antenna was just bunched up in a rat's nest in the radio compartment and one where the antenna was still wrapped around the Rx. In the second instance I got a few nasty glitches which caused me to land early, but in the first, the entire flight was flown successfully. I don't recommend doing either, but it just goes to show you that you can get away with a LOT. just be sure to loop the wire and not fold it over itself.

On 1/2A type planes, when I still had a 72MHz radio, I have coiled the antenna wire around a piece of plywood and secured it. Like you said, be careful not to wrap the wire back over itself. I know it did technically shorten the range but it was still good as far as I could see and fly the airplane. On something like the Waco I would just runit out the tube though and let the excess stick out if there is any. It can always be taped to the fuse or something too.

It is covered over with the covering, but there is a hole in the sheeting that the tube comes to.

I'm chugg'n along with my WACO, but discovered a problem. I went to peel off the larger instrument decal to place on the solid lite ply panel and the black part released but the darn instruments stayed behind. No way to remove them with destroying them. Looks like the die cut went too far through the sheet. Anyone else have this problem? Luckely I had some Jtec scale instrument sheets and was able to use those so all is not lost. I also painted in inside edges of the instrument cutouts with brass paint then sandwiched them together. Have my dummy engine finished, just need to do the air flow cut-out. ACF

Sorry, I've been all over the country lately and I guess I forgot about that!

Here is the installation I'm using: I lengthened the throttle arm with a DuBro servo horn. I don't know if it's really necessary, but I wanted a little more clearence for the choak pushrod.

I cut about half of the threads from a pushrod, screwed a nylon ball cup onto it and bent the wire as shown to clear the tank.

Then I mounted the servo to the receiver mount (You'll need to cut the servo opening and add doublers to the bottom for the screws). This worked out great as it's now a straight line and you don't have to snake the pushrod all over the place.

Any flight reports guys?? I am "patiently" awaiting my Jtech muffler. They are doing good I just am in a hurry. :D :D

MinnFlyer I approached mine in a different way but it works great. Yours looks clean and simple now that I see it. I see that you went with manual choke too. I have never like using a servo for choke because I would forget which way the switch is for on and off! I will post a few picks of mine tonight.

I flew my maiden tonight. Absolutely perfect Saito 180 gas ran great, started with 16x8 prop switched to 17x6. Just 1 click right trim and it flew hands off, loops, rolls, everything just great. Came in for a landing and it just tracked perfect right to the ground, no bad tendencies at all. Awesome!!! Only thing I noticed is stock tailwheel seems to be getting loose, wiggles a little too much, will have to add wood in tail and replace.

Foolish how was the speed with the 6 pitch? If you remember where is your balanced at? Inquiring minds want to know. :D:D And I have to ask this, but how does the FG30 run?? I want a Saito 4 stroke gas BAD, but hear nothing but horror stories!

Installed the DLE 20 with the stock muffler. Using a Xoar 17x6 prop. A few pictures of the installation with the dummy radial. What a pain to install. I could not get the recommended procedure to work for installing the cowl. Used my own method and came out nice. The vent line has not been secured yet, that is why it is hanging out of the cowl.

I just finished installing a DL-30 rear carb. in mine. I am using a Jtec pitts style muffler and I've added the single bolt prop adapter from Valley View RC. If anyone else is using this combo be aware that you need to reduce the number of lite-ply spacers down to just 2 instead of the 3 stated in the instructions, in order to maintain the 170mm firewall to prop hub distance. The prop adapter adds about 4mm to prop hub length. All-in-all not a real big issue if you don't do it. Just a thought. ACF

Fly's great ! Stalls straight ahead, no bad habits, tracks pretty straight on take-off also the same on landing. Powered by OS 1.20 using Zinger 16-6. Flying at 4500 feet altitude. A bit more than scale power. It's a real nice one, Hat's off to GP, They have a winner ! Now it's back to winter here. MM

Hey Hellcat, That is a great looking Waco!!!!!!!!!! Let us know how the Dle 20 works. Thats what I have installed in mine. I'm waiting for my J-tec muffler for it. I have just about finished my dummy Jacobs radial engine.
I probably have a couple of weeks or so before I fly it. I still have lots to do!

Jusr finished up the Waco today. It weighs 12 lbs 13 ounces with the DLE 20. Turns a Xoar 17x6 prop 8200 RPM and idles at 1700. Hope to maiden in the next few days.

Hellcat, That Waco is AWESOME !!!!!!! I hope mine looks that good!!! Mine should be almost a dito to yours with the DLE 20 and the same single leather helmet pilot. I almost wish now that I had of just used the stock muffler like you did and saved that money. Your muffler exit looks just great!! I'm sure it will fly like a ""Waco....."".
